The tv show is actually more sympathetic to chuds than the book. In the show, after the squid-attack, Ozymandias installs a leftie anti-cop puppet government which brings about the woke era a decade earlier than in reality and pays reparations to victims of white supremacist violence. The only people who rebel are white supremacists who know the truth about the squid and emulate Rorschach. In the meantime, the even more megalomaniacal eco-leftie daughter of Ozy wants to steal Dr. Manhattan's powers to become a Greta Thunberg god-queen of earth. , and used the squidpilled racists as a smoke screen, hence employing a race-war narrative to distract people from the real problem. For me the show panders too much to the right-wing. Episode 5 was as far-right as tv gets these days - begins with lefty youth being depicted as sadistic bullies who are unable to take seriously the apocalyptic threats put forward by a Christian and immediately paying for it by being dying in an apocalyptic event directly related to that threat. Later in the episode it is established that this event serves a role akin to the Holocaust in the cultural consciousness of the Watchmen world, as Steven Spielberg made a Schindler's list style movie about the squid rather than the Holocaust. At the end, it turns out that the government is lying about this event and that the only people aware of the truth are nazi terrorists. Wtf Lindeloff

This. It has a good set up, but doesn’t commit to its own ideas, and instead quickly pivots to “remember le manhattan?”. Everything related to involving the old characters directly in the story was complete nonsense and had to have been a production concession, because you can tell how obviously out of place it all is and how so many things (the slippery man) end up just being loose ends or red herrings. I’ve never seen a show waste its potential this bad.
