Everyone thinks a silly Bond is conceptually bad these days but you really just have to do it well. There's nothing wrong with the Bond formula, it's only thing this franchise had got right.

Bond has always been silly. From Connery to Brosnan, it's always been a light easy-watching franchise where a guy bangs broads and kills rich weirdoes. They're playboy magazine stories.

It only had to change itself once and it's because times got too cynical and Bond is a character that needs to exist in the moment. 20 years later audiences are back to looking for the exact thing Bond was. There's no reason, commercially, to just make Craig again.
