A movie so bad, it's just bad. A movie which no enjoyment could be derived from, ironic or otherwise.

I know this is a generic answer but I've genuinely never had a worse time watching a film than with the original suicide squad. Painfully bad. It wasn't even so-bad-its-funny bad, just plain bad. I was watching a stream of the film and when it got to the part where the fire Mexican is about to fight the magic witch woman and the stream paused to buffer and I took it as a sign to stop watching it right then and never went back. I think I was only like 15 minutes from the end but I never bothered finishing it and I'm glad I haven't.

My personal one I loathe is 'Mars Attacks'.

All star cast for its time. High enough budget that it doesn't have the excuse of being some low budget flick. Just a plain ugly, mean spirited movie. The only thing I'll give it is that there really isn't another movie like it. But overall just a horrible movie that's the equivalent of a midday nap where you wake up disorientated and sweating.

The fight between the Mexican and "Incubus" is one of the worst elements of CGI put onto screens in the last 20 years.
It starts with Incubus doing poorly staged "attacks" on the rest of the Skwad (while not being in the same frame with them) with stupid looking CGI tentacles, and never gets better than that.

If we include genre and exploitation cinema then
Nude on the Moon and Diary of a Nudist (1961) - early nudie cuties that are amateur in every way, although some can find them earnest and endearing.
If not then several candidates:
Seduto alla sua destra aka Black Jesus (1968) - a very schematic, barebones biopic that doesn't give away any context and instead focuses on weirdly homoerotic violence. Abysmal Italian dubbing as a cherry on top.
La Religieuse (1966) - I like Rivette but this is wtf was he thinking tier bad. It's one of the ugliest films I've ever seen. Horrible dirty, dusty, unpainted sets, potato sacks instead of costumes, mannered, mechanical non-acting, criminally incompetent editing. A shot of a skull toy as a prop in a solitary cell is the worst moment I have ever seen in cinema.
What? (1972) - very obviously made as an excuse to fuck around on the villa that was used as a set. A coked up film made before coked up film became mainstream. An incoherent Alice in Wonderland with a naked heroine and rape played for laughs.
Fool for Love (1985) - filmed theater of the worst kind in the worst sense of the word. Coarse, pretentious melodrama that descends into characters bluntly reading exposition for the entire third act.

There are so many different ways to quantify "worst" but as far as the gap between hopes and reality this has to be the rock bottom

I could literally follow James Cameron around for the rest of his life just asking him over and over "Why wasn't it as good as Terminator, James? Why wasn't it as good as Aliens, James? Why wasn't it even as good as True Fucking Lies, James? How the fuck did you make the greatest scifi action movies ever and then you got 20 years to work and a billion dollar budget and all you could give us is this dogshit? Huh? What happened to you?"

Just stand over his bed repeating it over and over every night for years because no answer he gave could be satisfactory

This is a strong pick. People shitpost a lot about malevolent directors, but of course most directors aren't malevolent, they're just careless, inept or greedy. I accept no hyperbole about Michael Bay because you can't question that Michael Bay loves what he does and loves his dipshit audience.

The Dead Don't Die and pic related are two of the only films I can ever think of that were truly and unironically made out of malice; the director hated the movie and hated the audience and wanted to make something intentionally unpleasant and unwatchable as an act of contempt towards the audience. At his heart, not even Lars von Trier can truly do this, no matter how gross shit gets you can feel him delighting in it like a misbehaved child stepping on ants.

But I think you're a special kind of asshole to spend millions of dollars and months/years of your life to craft something that's literally just "Fuck you for watching this, fuck you for creating a market where this could be made."

It's Cameron indulging his own tastes and politics and feelings about this and that.
And it's a perfect acceptable sci-fi adventure when they are honestly pretty hard to come by.
AND it was enormously successful, though that seemed secondary to Cameron, who was enthused about it on technical/creative levels.
Nor is it "overrated" by fans or critics.

Speaking of contrarianism, this one just baffles me for how successful and acclaimed it was
Literally unironically nothing happens
Some people with a shoddy camcorder walk around in the dark yelling each other's names and "fuck" for an hour and a half and then the movie ends
I feel like I was being psyopped when I saw everybody going apeshit over it and calling it a masterpiece

You act like I'm hating it, stop projecting whatever it is you want me to feel about the movie. I don't care. The story is generic. I get it you're a massive cuck fanboy who wants to suck off the blue people ponytails but calling a movie generic isn't hatred. I'm done talking about this mediocre film that you're taking deep offense to because I didn't love it and give it a 11/10. You blue people tranny fetish fags are annoying.

Thirteen Days. So called because that's how long it is. I actually left the theater multiple times as a kid to go to the bathroom hoping that when I got back it would be over.

Anyway, serious answer? Probably Hellinger or Baby Ghost. Or anything Godfrey Ho made.

You might be shitposting but godamn I hated Space Cop
Why the fuck couldn't they just be sincere?

All the "classics," The Room, Samurai Cop, Birdemic, all the way back to Manos and Plan 9, they hold up because they're dead fucking sincere. Imagine how dogshit it would be if Tommy Wiseau ever winked in the camera. What gives the movies any merit they have is that in spite of being poorly written, acted, directed, shot, etc. they're still completely sincere, like some wonderful maniac was going "I really tried to make the best movie I could and bring my vision to life and this was the result" and that has an ineffable charm of its own

There is genuinely a better movie buried under "I'm Rich Evans and this is Mike Stoklasa and we can't act and we have no money but here's a movie about a cop from space killing people" and they couldn't bring themselves to make it, as if they were fucking ashamed.

From an entertainment standpoint: Dead Man with Johnny Depp. Jim Jarmusch movies have the most obnoxious faux-profound dialogue I've ever heard, and a nasty habit of wasting time on pointless overlong scenes.

From a technical standpoint, this movie on Tubi where the guy's parents are Satanists and he's trying to lose his virginity so he doesn't get human sacrificed.

I don't watch bad movies intentionally. I in good faith go expecting at least a decent movie if with friends, or by myself one I'm more sure that I'd enjoy. Its when I am let down and that expectation falls flat that I am pissed.

This is kind of a weird one, since it's just run of the mill bad.
>Be late 90's into mid 2000s
>Have best friend, later roommate
>From 1999 on we are kino attendee autistics
>We go to 2-3 movies per week, in addition to our weekly 5-10 rentals and purchases
>Beginning of the month buy local film magazine and go to the back for the release dates and begin circling selections
>Get to one week and confused. There is "nothing" on. No interesting new releases at the cinema or video store. Art house isn't even playing any revival film worth watching
>Most promising of the bunch was pic rel
>It was boring and bad
>Sat in the theater angry that I had been robbed of kino. Angry that they didn't spread release dates out. Dumbfounded as to how you could have One. Whole. Week. Without at least one 8/10 film released
It seems ridiculous now, when you get entire years with nothing over a 6/10, but at the time it was an affront. We were used to seeing shit like American Beauty, Blair Witch and Magnolia on the same day. Now...we have only Hollywood Homicide.

Beowulf is the first book I ever liked, read it in high school as part of literature class. Movie came out like six months after reading it and I couldn't fucking wait, friend and I pregamed in the parking garage and snuck a couple more tall boys in our jackets. Movie starts well enough, but I think 30 minutes in Beowulf decides he doesn't want to kill the bad guy but rather sleep with her because they cast Angelina Jolie for the part, God knows why. We were furious and asked for refunds but didn't get them. FUCK the Beowulf movie and anyone involved in it

People just hate him and his movies now because redditors praise kubrick like he's a god. Kubrick was a genius but he's the only director that's really ever been given this treatment so it got really annoying and tiresome. Not to mention all the absurd conspiracy's surrounding him. I don't even like to mention him anymore when it comes to films despite loving many of his films due to hearing either side either hate or love him unconditionally. Fans ruining the image of something good, tale as old as time.

3 wasn't a masterpiece but I believe you're thinking of 2

In 2 they're all trapped in a base with bugs that burrow in people's brains and take them over, i.e. they don't even need bug effects it's just actors playing Body Snatcher. Notably the main character is supposed to be Clancy Brown but they couldn't afford Clancy Brown back, which sort of feels like you couldn't afford Eric Roberts. $7 million budget, 33% RT, 3.6 IMDB

3 is supposed to be a return to form but it's also dogshit, its only saving grace is that it resembles 1 more than 2. T'Pol from Star Trek Enterprise is the main character and she's guiding a small group of crash survivors across a bug infested planet, sorta like Pitch Black but during the day. They get the big hype moment at the end when they're cornered and totally doomed and Casper Van Dien shows up in badly CGIed power armor that's supposed to be more like "real" Heinlein armor. $20 million budget, 43% RT, 4.3 IMDB rating

3 had one memorable thing going for it, the new Starship Troopers theme song, and a sorta clever plot conceit where the guy who sings it is a coward and a traitor but after he dies all of the surviving heroes simply agree without much hesitation to lie to the public that he fell heroically in battle because he's such a useful recruiting tool

>just let Joe Estevez wander around doing mumbled improv with a puppet
why

Like, you know what's one of the worst movies ever made but will never be one of the worst movies ever made? This.
There's zero budget, zero acting talent, special effects are mannequin limbs dripped in ketchup and literal .gif clipart, the inexplicably psychic and teleporting Sasquatch only makes one "guy doing a lawnmower impression" noise on a constant loop, the Native American Shaman is clearly a hispanic woman who knows less about Native American customs than I do, and the credits song is the writer/director's mom singing in falsetto about the sacred connection of all life.

It's a masterpiece, you could watch it a dozen fucking times and not get bored.

Suicide Squad felt weirdly dated. Like that shitty The Covenant movie from the 2000s that was trying to be Harry Potter but for edgy teens. It's a "this ain't your little brothers superhero movie" movie that was made years after audiences got sick of that shit.

Cosmic Sin, starring maximum aphasia Bruce Willis
Unironically one of the worst movies ever made. I'm one of very few people who actually went and saw it in theaters with a few friends as a laugh, it made me feel like I had aphasia along with Bruce as I watched it. Nonsensical plot, terrible CGI, many actors were actually worse than braindead bruce, just plain retarded.

I always thought that was the case too.
It was around the time him acting crazy on Oprah and his scientology crap was at its peak and he just wasn't that liked as an actor.
Felt like his agent told him that taking a bit comedy role like Grossman would be a great way to change his image. Worked wonders desu

Whiplash. The fact that it's the most beloved movie of the '10s (in NA at least) contributes to its distastefulness. Entirely ridiculous flick that appeals to children and retards who have absolutely no experience doing anything in the real world; it's like one of those evil-teacher elementary school movies, aged up. Look into Chazelle's life before directing Whiplash for a chuckle.

Yeah The Dead Don't Die really is just a listless movie that has nowhere to go and nothing to say. The worst part is you're kind of set up to think both of those things are something that will pan out if you invest your time, when you slowly start to lose that sentiment every minute you spend on it. At the very end, if you make it there, you're left feeling like you're watching a movie that's the equivalent of one of those work days where you go in and sit there for 8 hours because there's no work.

>Mission tpo Mars

Tom Sizemore and Val Kilmer got into a fight and had to be filmed separately because Tom got jealous that Val had his $20,000 gym shipped to the filming location in Australia so he threw one of the gym weights at Val in a rage who just managed to duck it.

They made up and became friends again years later before they both died

You know whatโ€™s amazing? I never watched this movie because the second Jurassic World was already peak slop to me, worse than an AI generated screenplay. Yet I heard this 3rd movie was somehow multitudes worse. It may very well be the worst movie Iโ€™ve ever seen if I actually see it.

You can tell someone doesn't watch movies when they list some 6/10 and call it "WORST MOVIE EVER". Big budget movies are never downright horrific. For truly terrible movies, you need to actively look into low-budget indie.

e.g. The Roller Blade Seven
Looking Glass

Elaborate on The Dead Don't Die. What's it going for? It has Tom Waits in it, so I always intended on eventually watching it.

The Dead Don't Die isn't bad. It's just really deadpan with flashes of nonsense mixed in. It's like zombie and b movie tropes mixed with Waiting for Godot.

It's not bad but it's not great. It doesn't take itself seriously so it isn't pretentious or anything. You need a certain sense of humor and the right expectations going into it.

The Dead Don't Die is so fucking bad
At one point Adam Driver and Bill Murray get surrounded by zombies and start thumbing through the script of the movie to see if this is the part they die in
Tilda Swinton gets on a UFO and leaves the movie
The "joke" is definitely that it's wasting your time on purpose for watching it with some meta thing about all zombie movies inherently being a waste of time so why not just go Dadaist with it

>At one point Adam Driver and Bill Murray get surrounded by zombies and start thumbing through the script of the movie to see if this is the part they die in
That's a joke and the type of thing I meant when I said it's like Waiting for Godot. It's like a Samuel Beckett play but there are zombies.
>Tilda Swinton gets on a UFO and leaves the movie
It's absurdist, anon. She's an alien that has been living among humans for however long and just nonchalantly gets into a UFO and leaves because the world is ending.
>The "joke" is definitely that it's wasting your time on purpose for watching it with some meta thing
No, the meta-stuff enhances the contrast between the extreme nature of events and how deadpan/resigned everyone is.
>movies inherently being a waste of time so why not just go Dadaist with it
That's overly reductive.

Watch it again, then go to this website and click theories at the bottom. You most likely missed vital details in that movie, Like how Marys gate is built similar to the stickmen in the forest. And even hidden apparitions in certain camera shots. They say ignorance is bliss. Though it can sometimes be a prison.

I watched it opening weekend (here - which was about 5 months after the U.S. release) and it
A. Was very novel to see found footage in a "real film" as opposed to the way it had been used before
B. Scared the shit out of me

I think seeing it a decade or more after it came out would greatly lessen the impact.

This movie was actually really good... Up until Ed Harris is killed and then they try and replace him with fucking William Hurt with a shitty half goatee. Not since Bryan Cranston was killed off in Godzilla has there been a shitty decision like that. Also there's a 69 sex scene that feels out of place for a wholesome family couple to be having.

To be fair it's super easy to pick a SOV movie as the worst or an Asylum or a 70s exploitation. We're talking specifically mainstream films because it's more interesting to discuss how Stallone made a shitty movie than how a bunch of people in the Midwest in their backyard made a shitty movie.
