I didn't like it but it genuinely felt like the movie makers cared about Sonic. For some reason I got a little choked up seeing Sonic graphics/gameplay in the credits.

Mario had a fully recorded orchestral soundtrack from Brian Tyler that got replaced in post by licensed music
such a shame, especially because the composer wasn't a pompous ass who wanted to do his own thing so the score is full of the actual themes for Mario and Donkey Kong

Can someone explain to me why the fuck this specific IP has a fanbase comprised almost exclusively of socially defective people?

One of my best friends is a Dr. Egghead impersonator and I've actually met some of his other friends who are fans of Sonic and they are some of the most infantile spergs imaginable. Like they legitimately have failed to mature past the age of 12 and you cannot have any sort of discussion about serious subjects (religion, careers, Trump, Russia-Ukraine, Israel-Iran, etc.) with them.

yeah, 1 was huge because of the sonic controversy, and since then they have been getting less and less attention on the internet, sad because the movies have been improving
