Thank You Mr Broccoli edition

>>212097927 (OP)Mommy Tโpol Mommy Tโpol. Iโd rather take โstart a war Archerโ over Captain Janeway and Iโm tired of pretending Neelix is funny in an ironic way. Heโs not. I hate nuTrek as much as the next guy but Voyager sucks. The best character is the doctor. Everyone else is such a bland uncharismatic piece of garbage. Voyager is a great example of a cool premise being ruined by shitty writers.
>>212097927 (OP)>"Broccoli" was a nickname given to Lieutenant Reginald Barclay by Wesley Crusher. The nickname began as a form of an inside joke at the expense of Barclay due to his perceived ineptness and nervousness. When Data found out about this, he didn't understand what Barclay had to do with a vegetable, of course, referring to broccoli.>After Captain Jean-Luc Picard inadvertently called Barclay the name Broccoli, Data attempted to excuse the faux pas, explaining that "Metathesis is one of the most common of pronunciation errors, sir. A reversal of vowel and consonant, "Barc" to "Broc"." (TNG: "Hollow Pursuits")Barclay in the hallway after this. Namecalled by the fucking captain. Bullied by fucking Wesley. red eyed. Barely holding back the tears. Fists balled tightly. Power walking towards the holodeck. About to do something far more violent than any of Worf's training programs.
>>212098407>About to do something far more violent than any of Worf's training programs.he's a cuck, he's gonna get a holomommy to dom him
>Watch DS9
>Super serious episode about Bajoran terrorists, The Maquis or Dominon
>Next episode is some romantic drama with Odo or Ferengi shenanigans
This is starting to piss me off.
>>212098513>ENT season 3 or 4 'sode>the cold open is some dark, edgy, dramatic thing about Xendi terrorism or something>the upbeat version of Getting from There to Here plays. with the strumming bossa nova guitar
>>212098513the maquis are never drawn out right. in fact its a huge plot hole in several story lines. dont fret over it and move on, like the writers did
>>212099633A weak batch. So weak, that ENT is probably the best one.
>>212099898Why did he do it?
>>212098092Voyager is 2nd best Trek after TOS.
>>212100183Iโm glad to see some retard representation in the thread, but youโre still retarded. โThereโs coffee in that nebulaโ says the dyke.
>>212098513That's what made the show super comfy.
If it's dark and depressing all the time it's no fun.
>>212100467Given what we have to work with these days you should be thrilled to see a straight white woman as the captain. I don't expect anyone to understand why I rank Voyager so highly but calling me a retard won't change my mind.
>>212100467coffee nebula is perfect for a donut planet
>>212100590nuTrek sucks, but voyager couldโve been so much better than what it was.
>>212100606hate that episode. wait a week and theyd be home
>>212100630Voyager is automatically better than Dark Space Nine, and it beats out TNG by virtue of being less boring. It's the absolute peak of episodic television. A flawless example of a dead era.
>>212100701wat. the entire time fast-forward thing happens to the planet, not voyager or any space around it. they make this blaringly obvious in the ep
the show never even attempts to examine the fact that time is so much faster and they already deveoped so much that they can not only damage voyager, but tractor it out of the dreadful orbi
>>212100777>>212100701Do you think if they had waited longer, the people on that planet could've developed the means of constructing a wormhole, or transwarp, or some other faster than warp technology? Also honestly you have to drop the notion of them getting home in the middle of a season or something. If you allow them that, and stop worrying about them getting home, you can actually enjoy it as a comfy Trek show.
>>212100777they become friends at the end. the whole episode only took a few days. if voyager waited around for another week they would have developed a way to send voyager home immediately.
>>212098407Itโs a testament to Barclayโs autism that a society as enlightened and welcoming as the Ent-D was still weirded out by him.
> >After Captain Jean-Luc Picard inadvertently called Barclay the name Broccoli, Data attempted to excuse the faux pas, explaining that "Metathesis is one of the most common of pronunciation errors, sir. A reversal of vowel and consonant, "Barc" to "Broc"I also freaking love both charactersโ line deliveries for this exchange. You can tell the actors were struggling to keep a straight face.
>>212100836as much as i love this ep it really fucks things up. that planet suppodedly went from non-warp to having tractor tech within a short period. they would. i dont know what they would have gone on to make, but they were near-fed tech last we saw. they should have gone way further that we didnt see but i dont know how the timeline would try to integrate that
>that one vulcan girl from the maquis in DS9
Why are vulcan girls so hot while all the male vulcans look like shit?
>>212100836i fully appreciate the gilligans island nature of voyager but that doesnt mean they shouldnt try to fill in the holes so it makes sense. for this episode they just needed a line about how it was impossible for them to ever leave the planet to help voyager because of some temporal subspace horseshit.
for threshold they just needed to say the salamander reversal procedure only has a 80% success rate so its not a viable solution.
voy is great and i love it but they are lazy sometimes
>>212101057>but they are lazy sometimesThats one way to describe janeway's moodswings, going from "i will let everybody on this ship die to protect the prime directive" to "i will kill this entire species if it means getting this crew home"
>>212099633The Sound of Her Voice is pretty solid, the rest are meh to bad
>>212100606Should have sent them messages commanding them to worship Neelix
>>212101443gosh i cant wait until forge supports the new 'kontext' stuff. editing random images is fun
>>212100976What you're getting at. Is, an infinite number of monkeys with infinite typewriters and infinite time, would eventually type out the complete works of Shakespeare. Like, you're saying it's inevitable that a planet that's given enough time will eventually invent some type of superwarp drive. But, nah. Surely. I don't think tech would scale like that. Linear progression, always going up. Gosh knows how many millennia that people lived as cavemen until they were spurred on by seeing a freaking spaceship in their sky. They're an isolated society. Other than Voyager. No outside influences. Maybe they just hit a brick wall in their tech advancement.
>>212101713they very well may stall out after voyager leaves but as long as they are motivated to solve a problem they are working at a rate of hundreds of years per day. and dont forget the doctor can go back and forth fairly easily. could solve the transwarp problems for sure
>>212101920It makes sense that their society was driven to contact Voyager. Because it was up there in their sky. Appearing suddenly. Silent. But, once they learn what it is. And the hows and whys. The mystery is gone. That deep drive is gone. Then it's just Voyager saying: 'hey, do us a favour. Invest just as much time and energy into inventing a faster space travel. Which, by the way. You can't even use. Because you're in compatible with eth rest of the galaxy'. Like, why would they? And even if they did, it wouldn't be anywhere near to the same extent that drove them to contact Voyager.
>>212101713>an infinite number of monkeys with infinite typewriters and infinite timesomeone within the last year finally disproved this, theres a paper on it. those monkeys will never, ever come up with even the first line of some shakespear, let alone a whole sonnet, and further let alone the whole poem. it will never happen even given infinite amount of time. it was a fun read because i do stuff that requires chance, dice rolls, etc
>>212102417>theres a paper on it.Interseting. I'll make sure to give it a read and double-check their maths
>>212102417>fails to understand infinitymany such cases. sad.
>>212102468i'm drunk so i'm not searching much but heres a quick hit i found
>https://www.sciencealert.com/scientists-confirm-monkeys-do-not-have-the-time-to-write-shakespearetheres an actual peer-reviewed paper underlying this which i wish i could cite but i cant be assed atm. its out there if you search it
>>212102533>science rejects concept of infinityokay, i guess
>>212102592i didnt take it that way at all. i use random numbers in some code stuff and when i started, i was surprised to find that nothing is truly random. for actual total randomization of things, they clock galaxies pulsing and stuff. look up true randomness. it goes way beyond any one language like c#
the problem is that within code, any random number is still a product of the system, so you need an outward source to be truly random - they go to what galaxies do at that point
>>212102682monkeys arent random. if it was random it wouldnt take near as long
>>212102697i like the search for spock fight
>>212102755sure they are. at least in that example. replace a million monkeys with a million negros, they still wont form the first word, let alone the rest. even given a trillion years
>>212102513Not everything converges at infinity. Most sequences do not.
>>212102211nta but I'm liking this idea their would be at least some work towards ftl tech anyway, so why not help of voyager while they are at it? its an entire planet even if only a couple scientists were working on faster then warp tech it would be worth hanging out at the planet for at least a couple weeks and seeing what they could do, it could pay if in any number of ways, like maybe they can't get them all the way home but they can send them say 5000 lightyears closer, or even discounting transport they might invent something that solves voyagers never ending energy crisis, give them faster computers better shields weapons the possibility is too good to not at least wait a few weeks then check in and see what they would be willing to do to help
>>212102943fucking savik being useless as usual
>>212102972she took spocks dick pretty well
>>212096756>hurr durr le Nazi skinhead nuTrekthat hippie doesn't look like a nazi at all
also, isn't the ok symbol supposed to be one too
even the ships are having sex on enterprise, what's your excuse faggot?
>>212103463No smoke without fire. The presumably horrific hate crime he committed to earn them must be v bad if his PR team is already doing damage control
>>212101030"It is illogical for you to lick my butthole."
"I'm sorry, Iโ"
"I didn't say stop."
>>212103590>a vulcan saying "didn't" instead of "did not"
>>212102417The Internet has disproven the theory that an infinite number of monkeys would produce the works of Shakespeare. Apparently, they would only produce a lot of seething about Star Trek.
>>212103578>no smoke without fireimagine living your life like this
>>212103506one of them has a shield. they're practicing safe sex
>>212103578by that logic obama is a white supremacist. he's half white after all. now we know which half he truly identifies with
>>212103590I assume she was flustered by the tongue action.
>>212103975OK hand being a le nazi symbol was a ploy concocted by /pol/ to see if CNN would fall for it, and they did. This was also around the time Hillary and her campaign declared a war on memes, labeling all of them as hate symbols. Which is half of the reason why she lost.
>>212103916>>212103975What he did to earn them must've been BAD with all these PR bots defending him
>>212103928neither of them have shields numbnuts, those are warp bubbles
>>212104129not the anon youre arguing with but remember that the swastika is not a nazi symbol. its a peace symbol as far as we know, found everywhere from ancient china to native americans. its a universal symbol that goes back when man drew symbols om walls, predating any writing.
>>212104297Yeah that's why the Koffing Pokรฉmon card has swastikas on it in Japan that were erased on the American version
>>212104246>>212104289They're warp shields. Shields made out of warp bubbles.
>>212104401yep there is tons of examples like that. as americans, people see a swastika and immediately assume nazis. but that aint the case. not at all given the entire history of that symbol. its found everywhere around the world and this predates any writing that we know of - its carved on cave walls and such. why? we dunno. its just one of many symbols found all over the entire world (yet they think people couldn't possibly have mingled with each other because its so old). if you like history, rock art is a biiiiig one you can get into with an immediate 'wtf why isn't this more known' factor
>>212103578>>212104129>>212104151is this the same guy who thought cultural marxism was a thing and started arguing about it lol
calling a warp bubble a shield is like calling a woman's pussy juice a profilactic
>>212104763So it's just correct?
On a completely unrelated note to what ever the fuck is going on right now, I started resurgence last night its ok, pretty comfy so far, weird though it runs a bit glitchy on my ps4 drops frame rates every so often, which is weird because the graphics aren't even as good as most telltale games that run perfectly. You'd think someone making a star trek game would know how to code better.
>>212102697Kazuchika Okada eat your heart out
>>212097927 (OP)Imagine today's writers trying to navigate Barkley's story. What a nonsense mess that would be. This would be a good interview question for new staff. "Explain the Barclay character to me"
>>212104763Vaginas are disgusting. They are only ever attached to women and women want to have sex with men, which is gay

what a great ep I genuinely felt bad for 6, also dumar and weyoun banter is at its peak the side eye he gives dumar when he says

is gold
>>212105801>Picard and Dukat>both like fucking people's momsThe diplomatic answer to the Cardassian situation was obvious in retrospect: a spitroast of Dr. Beverly Crusher surgically altered to appear Bajoran.

>>212107721nta, its very obvious what you are trying to do you spastic.
>>212107500Because the return of the show made a big splash in the mainstream news at the time.
We used to have a more centralized culture. You received information through set channels. Television mainly, newspapers, magazines, word of mouth. When they announced a new Star Trek, the news was everywhere and so it garnered a lot of public interest. It's why the pilot of TNG had such a high viewer number. Of course, it would drop shortly after Farpoint as all new shows do, as a lot of the flavor-of-the-month fans don't actually care and just move on to the next thing in the news cycle.
It happens still, just to a lesser degree. The internet really has ruined a lot of things.

When they started a tng re-run from the start I was looking forward to it and apart from Farpoint I was sorely let down, and then Code of Honor happened, it was great still remember it was the first time tng really clicked for me.

>>212108339in around 2001 I was visiting a girl every couple of weeks, hanging out at her place for the day each time.
she asked me if I wanted to watch startrek with her, I said I didn't really watch it, then asked if I wanted to watch american psycho - I didn't know what it was, she described it - saying it was really funny and that he kills someone with a chainsaw. I just immediately guessed it was like texas chainsaw massacre, brutal and dehumanising, and refused.
later watched it alone a year or two after and liked it. later watched star trek more alone too.
a couple of other girls around the same time asked me to watch smallville with them, I didn't like what I'd seen of it so refused that.. some. years later watched most of it alone instead.

>>212114937You can't dig out of this hole man. Every person who gives any shit about star trek knows what the ORIGINAL star trek show is. And thats what you asked about. You made a fool of yourself, and nobody is going to be on your side here.

>>212115845Back then the show was considered woke because it had a diverse cast and anti-war messaging. Now it's seen as regressive because all the women were subservient to the men. It just shows how much our society has changed.
We should send out our women into battle. That will solve both problems.
>>212116021>regressive because all the women were subservient to the menliterally not true. the most regressive part by today's standards is how all the women are hot and always wearing sexy outfits

>>212115845So, what you're saying is that TOS, for its time, was...woke NuTrek?
I really wanted to give "New Voyages" the benefit of the doubt. I was thrilled to find there were superfans making their own episodes! Then I ran into this scene. I stopped watching it. Be glad I sped it up to 20x; it was only 3 1/2 minutes, but felt SO much longer. And one of these pumpkins is supposed to be Kirk's son.

>>212117618The only ones that come to mind are 1972's "Fritz The Cat" and 1981's "Heavy Metal". I'm sure there's no end of anime with nudity; one of my college roommates had a surprisingly large collection of such things.
>>212116665oh right you see gene coon was really imporant for star trek that is fact you only learnt a few weeks ago so you have to post in in each and every thread like you have any idea what you are talking about. Why the obsession with trains in /trek/ thread? Is it to promote awareness of rail transit? Or is it to try to get a train featured in Trek?
Probably neither of those reasons, those both sound like loco motives!
