James Cameron called Nolan a coward for not showing the consequences of the atomic bombs on Japan.

Why should it, the thing that makes the movie interesting is that it's not about the manhatten project or about the bombings, it's about Oppenhiemer himself.

I'm not sure about the first one and maybe there's a way we could have dropped it on a military target instead of a bunch of civilians, but the second one was definitely Japan's fault. If I sneak up and punch a bodybuilder in the back of the head and he sends me to the hospital, nobody is going to think I'm a victim.

>I'm not sure about the first one and maybe there's a way we could have dropped it on a military target instead of a bunch of civilians
Hiroshima was a military target. It housed the HQ of the Second General Army, military depots, supply routes and a lot of factories involved in the war effort.

But the main point was that it was a dense, compact and flat target, which was perfect to demonstrate how effective the nuke really is. Were they do drop it on some remote mil installation, japs just wouldn't give a shit and considered it a conventional explosive. Hell they didn't give a shit anyways, which is why the second nuke had to be dropped.

Military port, shipbuilding center, major navy hub, munitions factories. Kokura was the first choice but it was too cloudy on that day.

I mean shit dude one of the potential targets included Kyoto, but they decided against it due to its cultural value. If someone punched me and then I knocked them out but made sure to leave their prettier side intact, that's being very generous.

The qustion is, is it really justice for western directors who care about hiroshima and nagasaki to make a movie about it when we know people will react like this?
It's not like Japan asked them to make movies about it but if their movies offend people, Japan is the one who gets the blame anyway

It's like you don't want to confront bullies at school or office, you just want to suvive by not confronting bullies but someone else tries to call them out and then you'll get bullied for that anyway

Cameron's Jurassic Park would btfo Spielberg's and rival Aliens in terror.
Cameron's Spider-Man would be regarded as the best capeshit ever made.

Nolan is a mid placeholder because no younger director is Cameron's heir.

I've truly never understood this criticism of the film. Like that's not the point of the movie. Oppenheimer not seeing the immediate aftermath and freaking out as he just imagines it is a pretty important part of it and a really good scene.
>>212104632
The movie is not about Hiroshima and Nagasaki, it is about Robert Oppenheimer.
>>212104029
With hindsight we can see that the second bombing had essentially zero strategic value. The Emperor already wanted to surrender before the first one, the "m-maybe the Soviets can mediate" faction wanted to surrender after the Soviets invaded Manchuria, and the hardliners wouldn't have wanted to surrender no matter what, and some of them even thought the idea of Japan being completely destroyed was romantic.

This is something that dismays me.
Cameron is one of the best directors and writers of her time, beyond her box office success. It's amazing that no one has tried to be like him.
I think this has to do with the fact that his filmography is small and each film is different from the other. Titanic is different from True Lies or Terminator. Even Terminator,It seems like a very different movie from Aliens despite sharing elements like science fiction, horror, and action. And aliens is a separate thing within the xenomorph franchise, so impossible to replicate in the sequels.

That wasn't my point at all.
Cameron wants to make a movie about a survivor of Hiroshima and Nagasaki and that's why he said this and he thinks it's a good thing to make a movie about it for Japs but is it really a good thing even if the movie will make the situation worse for Japan? That might be just egoistic.
