Those two HBO directors really fucked his franchise up and put an irreparable, disgusting stain on ASOIAF...
How do you even come back from that?
If you release the books the general populace won't buy them because they'll just expect them to be as dogshit as the last 3 seasons of the show.
If I were in his shoes I would give up as well.
There's no point in even considering writing the books at this stage.

Agree. He should be honest with himself and the world and say they should have ended after book three and the rest was a mistake that was incentivized by money. Also that adults shouldn't be interested in this genre on a regular basis, maybe once in a blue moon.

Successful yes, but it wasn't particularly influential.
Maybe you might get a few more welsh VAs voicing waifus over the years, but apart from that it just extended the influence the souls series had already established.
