I was a binge drinking alky myself. I couldn't drink in the morning but I couldn't abstain each night. The slow and steady alcoholics play a far more lethal game than the bingers. Drinking in the morning and throughout the day is a much more complicated game when it comes to work and travel and everything else. Of course there's maybe less falling down and wild antics, but your liver never ever gets a rest. At least my way there's that long day of rehydration and sweating and feeling better before doing it all again. Sipping 18 beers over the day every day is a ticket to the boneyard. I've lost more boozing buddies to that route than the crazy nights route. Probably because of the different burnout factors.

I work for my mate. Just me and him and he's never operating machinery so it's like being a contractor. Never been pulled over after work because of the backroads. Honstestly most days it's every 15 minutes jump out have a beer and a cig jump back in.
