The whole existence of Reeves' Batman movie series baffles me. What the fuck was Warner Bros. thinking making an entirely separate continuity of films while their main superhero franchise was still ongoing and on the brink of being rebooted entirely? Now we have these Batman movies which take several years to create while Warner is still gambling big time on the success of James Gunn's new series of DC films.

This isn't the first time this happened inside WB. Long ago you had a WB president wanting to make Batman v Superman with Michael Keaton and another actor playing Superman, and another high level executive wanting to make a solo Superman movie, with the latter one winning the conflict. That's how we got Superman Returns eventually, and how old the BvS project really was.

For the record, there is behind the scenes shit going on at wb too. If you know anything about Reeves, he doesn't tend to finalise scripts in advance. He goes in with a loose (ish) script and rewrites it as he films based on what feels natural etc.
That's just how he works.
Rumour is that he's had the incomplete/draft script finished since like a year ago. Combine that with Gunn's recent comments about too many hollywood films entering production without finished scripts...

If you listen to That Batman commentary with Matt Reeves, you realize he is a smart man but a man with extremely basic taste. He used Nirvana music. He said he was inspired by Taxi Driver for the Riddler jacket. He mentioned other popular movies for various aspects of the film. One thing I will give him credit for is his own version of Gotham City. He explains that shooting in New York, Pittsburgh or Chicago would not make sense because other Batman movies have these as locations. He created his own city landscape.
