You really didn't miss anything. Michael Burnham gave lots of speeches and hugged Saru too much and they ended up literally like 1,000 years into the future and Michael Burnham had to rebuild the federation and then the Romulans and Vulcans had moved to one planet and now they get along. I'll give them credit they really toned down the war stuff but what they replaced it with was unbelievably boring. Just, so so boring. I would rank Lower Decks lower than STD though, STD once it got there, was at least trying to be a dramatic scifi show. It was just, they kept giving them extended length episodes. God the extended length episodes. Nothing extra would happen except for more speeches but you'd have to sit there for an hour and 5 minutes when it could've been done in 35 minutes. I'll spoil the ending, they flash forward and Burnham and Book have a kid go to Starfleet academy in the future. And the main plot of the final season was they met up with a computer program or a matrix or something where the Ancient Aliens who seeded the galaxy with humanoid life from that one TNG episode, they set up like a puzzle to get into this matrix, and Burnham solved the puzzle and they gave her some kind of magical power to use the technology but she decided to destroy it instead. I didn't quite follow because it was so boring and so long and there were so many speeches they didn't say anything meaningful. But it's kind of like running a marathon you feel like shit when you're done and you think why did I ever do that, but there is a sense of accomplishment, whenever people say they couldn't finish STD I can say: I finished it.

>tl;Dr: Watched all of STD, would not recommend

I remember reading a theory that because it's a Breen confederacy they wear the suits because they're actually many different races that all call themselves Breen but the helmets are like an equalizer. Don't think it's canon though.

Anonymous No.212154959 >>212155334
>>212154576
It's all such a blur. That's why I'm glad I finished it because it really is a one of a kind experience. It's like watching paint dry. It's not like it's ever infuriating or terrible, its just aggressively mediocre. From what I remember:
Season 3 they get to the future and face off against the Emerald Chain who were like the Orion Syndicate who had taken over the quadrant after all warp powered spaceships became unusable because a future Saru alien had a mental breakdown and his brainwaves caused all the dilithium to explode or something? I'm not making this up. So they have to try to help rebuild the federation while fighting the Emerald Chain. Pretty boring.
Season 4: A space anomaly eats an entire planet and Book decides to join with a guy from Risa who hates pleasure and they want to find the anomaly and kill the aliens who ate the planet and killed Books nephew. Burnham goes after them, meets the aliens and gives speeches and they turn off the anomaly. That was basically IT for the season aside from some smaller politic type stuff, so I'm gonna say season 4 wins for most boring.
Season 5 like I said has the puzzle aspect which keeps the season moving, it has the Simp Breen and the sort of fugly blonde chick who he follows around as they try to also solve the matrix puzzle. OH. It's revealed that David Cronenbergs character was Daniels from the time bureau in Enterprise. Why? I don't know.

Oh also at some point they go back to the mirror universe and then the Guardian of Forever shows up and scoots Michelle Yeoh off the show. Yes, the Guardian of Forever from TOS. That might have been season 3?

This is what I mean it's just really really hard to rank them in terms of boringness. They're all boring in their own unique ways. Also Tilly makes the show increasingly unwatchable. It's like as she got fatter her character became more of a bitch.
That's all I can really dig up I watched it all a few years ago or whenever the last season of STD ended

Two things I did like about seasons 3-5 (couldn't say when they happened): Michelle Yeoh going back to the mirror universe and murdering the engineer guy during a big ceremony was well done. He was very evil. It's a blur but I just remember it as being somewhat entertaining. The other thing that was well done was when the gay doctor got brought back to life from the mycelial network after being dead for 6 months or something he's just very on edge about it. He was a good actor. I believed him as a guy who came back from the dead and was legitimately freaked out by the whole situation. They let that breathe too, it wasn't just over with after an episode.

No kidding. For a show thoroughly infused with God-like beings (e.g. the Q, Apollo, Gary Seven, Trelane, the Bajoran Prophets, the alpha-quadrant Nacene, etc. etc.), for Riker to be so anti-religious was kind of a surprise. It's like his small-minded prejudice trumps actual evidence.

There are two main problems with NuTrek:
1. It's made by the worst hacks working in Hollywood (Kurtzman, Goldsman) and talentless DEI hires who don't know how to light a set properly.
2. A very vocal minority of queer Trek fans who only care about media in terms of how it can tickle their fickle identities have basically demanded that every show pander to them specifically.
The end result is poorly-made slop that only 3% of the population can actually enjoy. Happy Pride Month.

Nobody cares if a character is incidentally gay. No one cares if there is a small reference to some gay relationship. No one cares if Dax has some one-off lesbian romance in an episodic series.
What is operatively different in Nu Trek is that the story has become secondary to representation and identity politics. Sub-par acting, sub-par writing, and a lot of it /is/ due to diversity hires, people who are less talented but get by on ticking Human Resource boxes.

Meanwhile, the viewer just wants to watch Star Trek. We don't want to watch representation and identity stories that have mostly been solved by the lore itself for hundreds of years. We just want to watch Star Trek stories according to the very successful formula that garnered these shows a following across multiple decades.

There are a few, it's true.

>Far Beyond the Stars
I'm struggling to name an abundance of them though which should be easy if such episodes are elemental to what Star Trek itself is.

Compare these episodes to something like "Devil in the Dark" though and you're going to see the difference between on-the-nose identity politics and actual science-fiction showcasing an excellent racial metaphor.

Star Trek basically invented fujoshi before anime came to the west. It always had an outsized LGBT+ fanbase. But the show itself never acknowledged it because it never had to. >yeah we just let all of the Romulans die and didn't even send humanitarian aid LOL
>the "Romulan Star Empire" which was large enough to maintain a massive "neutral zone" border with the Federation is now suddenly a planet with a single world which was obliterated by a single supernova
Nu Trek writers try to drag Trek's enlightened setting down into the mire of what's going on in our actual world instead of letting it be a beacon of optimism by which we might chart our way to the future.

It's just cheap, bad writing, similar to how a lot of comic book authors just have no idea how to write a Superman story and try to subvert his lore and make him edgy.
These are people who can't even conceive of the type of future Roddenberry was envisioning and should keep their hands off of it.

The reality is that the writers just liked writing for Kirk, Spock, and McCoy more than the other characters.

The same thing happened in Enterprise. The difference is that Berman and Braga have the majority of ENT's writing credits and were also the showrunners and EPs, so instead of curating that and making sure the other characters also got episodes (which had been a staple of Berman Trek since Piller took over TNG in S3), they did the opposite.
I would've been so pissed if I had been a ensemble cast member on ENT.
