The only russian movie I've ever seen is Stalker. I guess that's more scifi/thriller though. Great movie nonetheless. Good series of video games too.

Plan 9 is a better "bad movie." Billy the Kid vs Dracula is railroaded into bad movie territory because the name and concept is ridiculous and John Carradine was high on hash when they filmed it, but outside of one scene at the beginning, the rest is pretty well made

I did some more reading after watching it, and some think he re-shot the movie because he wasn't happy with it and used the story about the film stock being ruined as an excuse. The original DP he replaced had said in an interview that Tarkovsky wasn't ready for the movie (I took as didn't really understand it) and couldn't see where it was going and he told him to re-write the script in a way that makes sense to him, but he got angry at him about it. But who knows.
