The best Bond film is still Goldeneye.
Goldfinger, Spy Who Loved Me, License to Kill, and Casino are the other actors' best films and theyre all pretty great in their own right, but Goldeneye has them all still beat and there's a bit of a gap even if we're being honest.
Oh, and don't ever let Lazenby Appologists convince you his movie is anything special. It is easily the single most overrated film in the series. The man literally can't act and the screenplay is retarded.
The worst Bond film is Moonraker unless we're counting the unofficial films in which case it's the original 60s Casino Royale.
And just for good measure since I mentioned the most overrated, the most underrated is either Quantum of Solace or Golden Gun. Although /tv/ also will do this thing where they underrate Skyfall a ton because incels think it makes them look cool to hate something general audiences really liked.

tl;dr

If they want to use one of the original novels they should just do Moonraker, since the film didn't really do the book at all.

It would be easy to update the story for present day (giant industrialist promises to build missile defence system, turns out he's aiming the missile at London / New York / whatever).

They could even make the industrialist like Elon Musk if they want woke contemporary politics points.

the problems with Thunderball are well documented
Live And Let Die is one where some people say it's their favorite. and I get it. LALD has a lot of flavor. it's got the most and best henchmen and side characters. but there's also not much to the movie. any time I rank them for a thread, it ends up kinda low because I like almost all of the other ones better.
Thunderball and LALD are fine. They're in the rotation of Bond movies, but every time it's one of their turns I go in thinking "maybe it'll really click this time"
in Thunderball's case I like it a little better because the better you know the movie, the better your mind can impose some structure upon it. It's no longer "Bond hangs out by the beach and eventually saves the day"

Bond has no consistent identity. Roger deviates from Sean more than Daniel does from Puerce or even Tim.
But thats besides the point. Everything in Skyfall up until Silva shows up is unironically some peak Bond shit. Silva is just Le Joker so I agree the film as a whole isn't perfect, but the idea that Moonraker or World is Not Enough is a better watch is just laughable.

Best: TSWLM
Worst: literally any of that flamer Craig's movies
For the record, Brosnan's movies were dogshit too, just not in a 'i hate the fans of this series' kind of way that shines through in every piece of the Craig movies
Moore is best Bond and it isn't even close, all of his movies are masterpieces

I didnt imply Skyfall was a masterpiece.
I said ranking it as shit is just an easy way to get written off as being forcefully contrarian. It's still a beautifully shot movie and it's at least a whole tier better than the other Craig sequels and if we're being honest the second half of Brosnan's tenure.

Moonraker is just campy as hell; it's fun in the sense that Adam West Batman is.

TWINE has some shit parts (Denise Richards as a world-renowned nuclear physicist and Renard's dumb bullet-brain), but Elektra's a great villain and her evil plot holds together better than Silva's.

Skyfall has better characters, but the central plot of TWINE is better.

but the movie still isn't as good to me as others. maybe it's the aspect ratio. I like the super widescreen ones better.
and regardless, I still watch the movie kinda regularly. I have every Bond movie up through TND, and I watch at least one a week.

Goldfinger is always held up as THE James Bond movie. Like if you're only going to watch one, it should be Goldfinger.
But it should be YOLT. Not that it's necessarily the best (I do rank it very high and above Goldfinger) but that it's got it all. Also it's during peak Bond. This isn't the franchise reinventing itself or evolving with the times. This is while Bond was the biggest thing in the world, and was living up to all of its hype. It's especially got all the stuff that "didn't age well" which makes it better and even more Bondy.
It's got Q bringing Bond Little Nelly, and then Tiger has his own "Q" scene showing Bond all the gadgets in his ninja training school.
It's got the volcano lair that younger people will recognize as the Hank Scorpio lair from the Simpsons.
It's got the Blofeld that most resembles Dr. Evil, and all the stuff that you see parodied. And when you see the real thing doing it straight faced, it kicks total ass.

Spy Who Loved Me or From Russia With Love

If we include the Craig era, throw a dart. Spectre, Quantum and No Time To Die are all pretty bad. Sadly, Quantum of Solace might be one of the better Craig era Bonds. Die Another Day actually starts out pretty good aside from the Madonna song. Moonraker and Man With The Golden Gun are entertaining, but not in a good way. Without Craig? Probably Diamonds Are Forever or Never Say Never Again.

>TWINE is also carried HARD by the opening sequence which is admittedly one of the best in the series
It's really dragged down by Denise Richards' off brand Lara Croft character and the guy who will die randomly eventually because he got shot one time. The ending is pretty lame too, it's just two wet guys punching each other with pipes in the background. What saves the movie from complete mediocrity is the bait and switch with the chick villain when you watch it for the first time, and the BDSM torture scene.

Favorite Bond movies per actor:
>Connery: Dr. No and From Russia With Love.
>Moore: The Spy Who Loved Me and Live And Let Die.

>Brosnan: Goldeneye and The World Is Not Enough.

Craig and Lazenby movies I just don't like. Casino Royale was passable but that's it.
