Hamada genuinely thought that they could release the Snyder cut and it would get the rabid fans to shut up and stop complaining. He thought they'd see it was better than Josstice League but not massively and, most importantly, had roughly the same story such that they would then go out and support the continuation of the dceu thus winning some more fans overall. A worthy investment of ~$40m give or take considering all the capeshit that was on the line.
What he didn't expect to happen was that it would get so much attention that it would crash the hbo servers, along with universal critical acclaim. The acclaim was so large that it made every wb exec look like a fucking retard to have dug their feet in for years in not only replacing it with Josstice League, but to also have spent years refusing to release Snyder's cut.
In short, it categorically embarrassed wb and Hamada. That's why we never got the Ayer cut.
