It's strongly a horror comedy. If someone watches it expecting something serious they'll hate it.

Just finished Tales From Black Manor (2025). It was ok. Some really good cinematography, but I''l get back to that. Shit early narration and sound editing. Music is too over dramatic most of the time.

Story was ok. Basic 'Devil tempting a bloodline over centuries to lure them to the dark side through murder'. Kind of centers around a house, but not really? Confusing at times. Really seemed more like a movie stitched together through cinematography rather than serving the plot. Cinematography really seemed like AI was used here. Any other anons see this and maybe share their sentiment? I'd give it a 6/10. It got better as time moved on. Visually beautiful.

I've seen almost all Rollin, he was one of my favourites as a teenager, his best ones are La nuit des traquées, Fascination, Lévres de sang and La rose de fer. Le frisson des vampires and Les démoniaques are also cool and Les deux orphelines vampires is very warm and lovely. Les paumées du petit matin is not really good but has probably the cutest girl he's ever worked with so maybe you'd want to give it a watch too.

It kind of depends. Some of it is artful, other stuff is just bad. House of Wax 2005 always sticks out to me because the film is full of gorgeous special effects and then randomly for no reason terrible CGI on the villains face.

Early 2000s CGI is fucking awful and i have no nostalgia for it. Remember The Scorpion King? My god that was embarrassing, looked like a PS2 game.

It's got to be my favourite of the decade. I get that on first watch the story is kind of confounding. But on a rewatch when you are no longer trying to piece it together, there are a million brilliant details to absorb.
