The problem with TV going away is that a big part of shared cultural experience has gone with it. When the Simpsons was on you went to school the next day and you'd talk about it, everyone knew what you were talking about because they all were watching it air too.
When a breaking news event happened everyone saw it happen in the same way. When it was something huge like 9/11 the TV stations even interrupted their current programming to go to live breaking news coverage.

If you were alive in the 2000s you had access to "syndicated television" and guess what, that's when zoomers were kids. Zoomers are literally in their mid 20s now. They were the last generation to experience it yes, but they experienced it. Zoomers grew up at the unique point in entertainment history where the internet was becoming more and more mainstream while TV and video rental stores were still prevalent and widely used by everyone.
I was born in 2000, I remember having conversations with classmates about what we watched last night at 7pm, or the morning cartoons on the weekends. I remember making friends with a girl in my class because I overheard them talking about some disney or cartoon show for girls and I had watched it too because there was nothing else on. The Simpsons, South Park, Family Guy, Futurama etc were titantic at this time.
It's not zoomer's fault that "gen alpha" doesn't roll off the tongue but it's that generation and younger who are the ones who don't know what it was like and it is sad. But they're messed up in so many other ways it's just another data point for them
