Cops spend months if not years building a profile and collecting evidence to truly get someone with their pants down, and it's a quick booking where the person is taken away as soon as possible. They want the whole process to be seen as something inescapable and all-encompassing.
Vigilante types don't do that. They tend to rush headlong into catfishing, which only drives these people further underground as they either get exonerated (in the scenarios where they show up and get beaten by a bunch of teens for tiktok) or see these events happening. This makes the evidence collection part harder and leads to more of these people not facing actual justice. It's a short-sighted movement and a classic example of why vigilante "justice" is something just as dangerous as the crimes themselves, as it will inevitably create harder to catch criminals.
The big thing that makes these types easy to catch is the idea of security, that allows them to ease themselves and slipup. If they're on edge all the time due to vigilantes, that won't happen.
