Watching some older movies made me realize how much the film industry has imoroved in the past few decades
The pacing is so much better nowadays as well as the twists. You can see all major twists from a mile in these old ahh movies.

True. Constantine does the whole occult noir feel better and is a more interesting movie than this.

Wrong about everything except the twists. Since the 90's we go in looking for a twist so we immediately notice the clues. They have to do a better job of hiding it now.

A lot of older movies are based on books, and despite what a lot of readers will say, a lot of these adaptations are pretty faithful, which is to their detriment. A novels pacing is pretty different than a movies. Novels can afford to be as fast or slow or even repetitious as they need to be because of all the extra information the text is giving, shaping narrative, character and atmosphere.
This is why the best book adaptations are the ones that were sparse to begin with like No Country, or were changed heavily like The Shining.

Real. I'd argue writing too has gotten better but also worse. There's more extreme cases on both ends now, I reckon.

Ruin the twist/ending of an old film and you can still enjoy the acting, directing, photography, special effects etc. Ruin the twist/ending of a modern film and you are often left with nothing. This is why the no spoiler culture is so strong today.

Yeah. Huge problem this day'n age is a lot of quality new releases remain un(der)watched because of how things are distributed now and lack of promotion. If you want a good Netflix rec, check out Mosul.

Agreed, the 80s and 90s were objectively bad decades for film and it's just nostalgia which blinds a lot of people because they watched Back to the Future and Terminator 2 as kids
Film peaked in the 50s

He clashed with Robert De Niro on the set of "Angel Heart". De Niro never forget it and has kept him out of projects ever since. De Niro is a petty, spiteful short man.

Zoomer status? 90's were a great decade for film (sure there was a lot of outdated slop but still). 80's were shit and so were the 50's. You're all over the place with your take and you might be retarded.

How? The reason no one has a proper explanation as to why film (allegedly) is so bad now is that it isn't. Yes, DEI slop is annoying (always been there and merely got more aggressive with bisexual Obama and the orange man). Yes, Disney sucks (done so ever since the man died). Yes, the Oscars, Hollywood Reporter and film bloggers all hate you (they likely would have done so 20 years ago too). None of the complaints bear enough weight to jeopardize the medium.
Anonymous No.212263184
>>212260425
This would make sense if it wasn't for the fact that films from the 80's and 90's weren't so well paced, while modern films are dragged out messes. See modern horror slop blowing way past two hours with endless scenes repeating or going nowhere.

People are confusing the industry being in bad shape and movies being bad. Yes, we literally haven't had more than a half dozen great movies in nearly 15 years, but that's not the same as the industry being in financial trouble.

It's fine but inferior to Boyle's Steve Jobs, which is a genuinely great movie.

Mann's Blackhat is another great one. It has perhaps the strongest Cyberpunk flair of any live-action movie ever. I love its chaotic precision, the total commitment to the topic, rendering every single scene as a hacking exercise of sorts.

Or Zahler first two directorial works.

Or Miller's definitive Mad Max interpretation(s).

Or Sarnet's recent films.

Or Avatar: The Way of Water.

Or Villeneuve's Dune.

Malick's The Tree of Life.

Gavras' Athena.
