Not saying him being in a gay relationship with his teddybear is better, but it's different at least.
Recently they've been playing more on him being an actual baby, which is fun. I've always liked the jokes that highlight this aspect, he's a time traveling, universe hopping genius that still gets fooled by peekaboo and can't button his overalls by himself. Him having a rival that's just a normal toddler but slightly cooler and better at baby stuff is pretty funny.
