fun fact, in star trek 3 it was originally suppose to be romulans but it was changed as it was thought they weren't as well known as klingons, but they had already begun building the ship so the design and name 'bird of prey' stuck. You can easily see how it was suppose to be a romulan ship with the wings and the green coloring

How does the Risan economy work.
Starfleet personnel can take shore leave there free of charge as they don't have money, so presumably the place is free.
It's just a big whore planet that can be used by anyone?
What do they eat, what is their tax policy?
What is stopping anyone from just saying "fuck you Starfleet I'll be living here for the rest of my days"?

Now Melbourne being full of hipster faggots a better joke would have been "the only starship whose captain drinks deconstructed soi turmeric raktajino latte with a side of smashed avocado toast" or something like that.

Lately I've been getting into this Yemeni coffee kick. They roast it super light which makes it a pain in the dick to grind but it's the smoothest coffee you'll ever have. They have it black and sometimes add cardamom, ginger or clove, so it's like Goth Tea.
I assume Yemen was laid waste by Khan or else Janeway would be mainlining that shit

Coffee and tea nerd here, most people use the wrong temperature and steep times for both, or fail to degas (in the case of coffee). So they compensate with milk/cream to blunt the extra bitterness from over extraction or sourness from under extraction.
Then people get used to it and it becomes habit.

The people of Risa are not whores. There's no money in the Federation. They fuck visiting strangers out of the goodness of their heart and because they want to make a valuable contribution to society. Just like dilithium miners. It is by no means illogical or contradictory, and once again, everything that happens in classic Trek makes perfect sense, is consistent, and is by no means soft-core porn. Peace be upon Roddenberry and his divine wisdom.

>Shatner is on our side, case closed.
While classic Trek has more SOVL, I wouldn't use Shatner as the barometer for that. He was a working actor and took any job that fit. He did an Esperanto movie, FFS. I don't think he bought into Gene Roddenberry's utopian vision so much as it was a paycheque for him.
Then later he realizes it is his primary source of notoriety, even though he put much more effort into TJ Hooker, Boston Legal, and being the Big Giant Head on 3rd Rock.
He didn't write, he read someone else's lines. So while his opinion is, IMO, correct, it's coincidental. I care more what someone like DC Fontana would think.

You have to use coconut cream in your coffee. Milk-based creamers have lactose, which hits your body like refined sugar. Non-dairy coffee creamers are mostly soibean oil, which will turn you trans and make you think nuTrek is acceptable. Coconut cream only changes the color of your coffee slightly, since it doesn't contain all those artificial food dyes you find in plebbit creamers. Coconut cream is the only way to avoid despoiling our precious bodily fluids.

nah, I just have a sense of humor, I'm willing to wade into shit for comedy gold and nicely compiled rage fuel, I wanted to make a version of the migleemo thing that's like the poochie itchy and scratchy cartoon. "I have to go now, my planet needs me" *slides upwards* "Migleemo died in a transporter accident" drawn in green crayon, cut to credits.
I think presenting the Migleemo B plot on its own shows how truly shit it is too, I had many reasons for doing it, partly I just wanted to test out these new video editing tools that don't require re-encoding, the Klingon cut I did was not re-encoded from the file that came from amazon's services, just cut and re-joined, despite those cuts not being on keyframes, it's really fuckin cool stuff. Migleemo's side had to be re-encoded on most of the clips because the tool is still flawed, but just having such pure shite compiled in one spot so people can point at it and go "this is what was cringe about LD" is also valuable to some.
whoever keyframed that source video file hated the migleemo subplot as well, that's for sure.

It's good, but coconut water is actually isotonic and can be used as an emergency substitution for blood plasma (https://www.snopes.com/fact-check/can-coconut-water-substitute-blood-plasma). So it's not *the* best.

The space jesus thing was stupid and not star trek and neither was making the prophets just literal gods. In the early seasons they seemed like omnipotent bajoran gods because of random circumstance, but were actually just alien beings who existed out of linear time and didn't even know about their reputation until Sisko told them. At the end of season 6 with the pah wraiths and the start of season 7 with Sisko's mom, the wormhole aliens became actual divine beings and protectors of bajor and talk about "destiny" in bullshit mystical riddles, and also have their own evil demons. It was set up so cleverly in the pilot and then Behr just came in and shat all over it.

the neat thing about this new way is you speak naturally to it, rather than inpaint. so like i take a pic of picard standing, then a second great pic of a ak47, and my prompt is 'the man is holding the gun', and it uses all pics as a reference

No, Gary Seven was the guest character in TOS "Assignment: Earth". Gary Mitchell was an ascended human, so I don't count him as a god. Trek had plenty of gods without him, yet they acted as if they had moved past religion. Serious cope, given what they literally ran into.

funny I was just thinking how much I like them, all the little bits and parts how they can be dissembled modded, and siege of ar558 shows very clearly why you use rifles both for accuracy and in an extended firefight they run out of power so you replace the power packs, with handheld phasers they run out much quicker, and of course they can be sued for melee in a pinch

oh definitely, I wouldn't want star trek to be bsg or visa versa, but the original idea was voyager would have consequences an on going plot, thats why they spent so much time in the pilot and the first couple eps setting up things like
>we have only 2 shuttles
>biomemedic gel
>combined starfleet and maquis crew
etc, then berman came in and said no its going to be serialized and we are going to reset end of each ep so you can watch them in any order. At the time it made sense but I imagine Voy would be much better thought of if it showed the progression and change of both the crew and the ship as they went along, some great stories could've come out of it too, like
>we have one shuttle barely working left, but we need water since we don't have enough power to make more then 3 days worth
or something like that, they've got one 1/2 working shuttle and have to gamble on a risky mission to get water or energy or w/e. Then next week we know the shuttle is out of commission and need to rescue some crew or something. You see what I mean it doesn't restrict the story telling it leads to much better stories wins are felt that much more because they were earned.

I think I prefer episodic, I think Berman was right. Seeing what we've seen with serialized "stories just keep going" tv shows they are a lot more like old fashioned "Come back next week and see if Buckaroo Bonsai can get out of this one!" type writing than like a good long novel. A good long story is going to have some boring parts but TV isn't allowed to have boring parts.

A mix of both would be nice, ironically BSG did a good job in season 1 of having stories that moved the overall plot and then problem of the week stories that could be woven into the bigger picture. Like the Tom Zerek episode with needing prisoners to mine water, it has a conclusion and no cliffhanger ending but you've introduced a reoccurring character. Ending every episode on a cliffhanger would be cancer, but so wax almost every Kazaar episode

TNG was still very much a Navy in space show on a submarine. A lot of the stories were built around unreasonable amounts of conflict or danger for children to be exposed to, and this is from the very start.

The only one obsessed with the concept and who liked the saucer separation shit was Gene himself which is why as his health failed and he relinquished control (really after the pilot), it was more or less never used again.
