>It's an episode that relies heavily on high ranking members of Starfleet to be corrupt and borderline evil
They aren't either, they are misguided and learn something. Even Maddux becomes pen pals with Data afterwards and stops calling data "It"
>and sometimes, my suspension of disbelief gets stretched a little too far.
Don't ever watch TOS then
>There is a ton of real estate between "he's not allowed to serve in Starfleet" -- this I could buy -- and "he's a toaster he has no rights and must submit like a slave to experimental surgery which may kill him" which is an insane thing to say against the backdrop of TNG's showcased morality up to this point.
They set that up well by asking if the computers deserved rights. Data was assumed sentient. Measure of a man codifies that he is
>It just seemed too cartoonishly evil. I think if the episode took place on DS9 people would say "oh here goes DS9 shitting on Federation principles again!"
but it gets a pass because it's somewhat early in TNG.
So you're just console warring between Berman shows, got it

>It's a flawed episode
All episodes have flaws, a flawed episode is one where they outweigh the successes
>anon but the sentence to sentence writing is great and almost everyone gives an amazing performance acting wise.
This is what I mean, I think the successes of Measure of a Man far outweigh it's flaws. To discuss it's failures is nitpicking when shown all of its successes.
