I don't see how that would've been an issue. It was always in the same timeslot as like supernatural and shit later on. (SPN showed some surprisingly brutal stuff for a CW show too)

you need joss whedon running this show, or men at least. women running this show means all edgy, and darker elements will be removed, women hate season 6 because of how dark it was, and it will be written like a fantasy sex and the city. women like buffy as a friend simulator, but buffy had broad appeal with men, because it had some well written drama and dark horror elements and the fantasy mythology was taken seriously and written well, with interesting season long stories ending in action packed climaxes with gruesome villains. women aren't going to be able to write any of that well, they'll sanitize it, and make it bland.
