>(Clears throat) Erm actually, the aliens are just big space bees. They live in a hive and have a queen, and they die to conventional gunfire.

Why was THE alien such a fearsome gigachad and literally unkillable, and then in the very next movie there's a billion of them, they're little cowards, and they can be killed by any farmers shotgun. So much for the ultimate living weapon.

The crew of the Nostromo didnโ€™t have guns. The colonial marines did. Obviously a squad of marines are gonna fare better than a bunch of unarmed space truckers. Thatโ€™s like saying Michael Myers isnโ€™t scary because you could theoretically pit him against a SWAT team where heโ€™d get his ass kicked. Also only pulse rifles work. Itโ€™s immune to normal bullets

Alien should have been an Anthology series with a new Alien each time
>Alien 2, the marines are expecting a Xenomorph
>Instead they get ambushed and killed one-by-one by some brand new alien species
First movie is a penis head monster that reproduces via gay rape?
Cool, now second movie is a female monster that absorbs people. Then have a movie with a monster that eats other monsters. Whatever
The possibilities were endless but instead we're on Alien 7 with "this time there's WHITE colored aliens too!!!!!"
Also each film should have had a new cat chad

When I was a kid, I took Ash's speech to mean that the alien was literally immortal and unkillable, which does make it sound much scarier. However, especially in light of the competent and perfectly good immediate sequel (to say nothing of all the later installments, which are uniformly trash, starting with the third one), and Ash's stated mission, he's almost, but not totally incapacitated at this point. So he is still trying to carry out his mission to the best of his ability, the only way he can: demoralizing them, giving them the idea that they can't possibly kill it (which they instinctively and correctly reject), beating them down as much as he can in his embarassing state. He very nearly succeeds in preserving the alien's life, at the expense of the rest of the crew. He's just still trying to carry out his directive any way he can, that's all. Fibbing a bit about the unkillable alien.

The crew of the Nostromo DID have guns. They could have easily killed the alien at any point. The only thing that saved it and allowed it to continue terrorizing them was their idea that they would always triumph and didn't want to be on the hook for causing massive, expensive damage to the ship. If they knew they were doomed anyway, they would have started blasting and killed it quick.

The Alien doesn't do anything special except sneak into the escape pod. The humans are handicapped because they can't shoot it without melting a hole in the hull.
In Aliens the humans are now free to gun the Aliens down, so they take casualties. However, the Aliens actually end up outsmarting and outmaneuvering the humans at almost every turn, wiping out most of them.

They are mentioned and they carry them around, dum dum. They do not use them because the acid will damage the ship. But it's there. Literally the thing that defeats them is their own responsibility and fear of financial penalties. If they had just started blasting, the alien wouldn't stand a chance because it was never some immortal, invincible being.

The idea is something like a handgun couldn't penetrate its hide since it's biomechanical. You'd need to shoot it point blank to hurt. The marines had armor piercing explosive tip rounds, so they could shoot from a distance.

Yep, the only direction to go after Alien was to have a bunch of them and if not on a ship then a few needed to die. But they're still very smart and fucking up the humans. About the only thing I didn't like was them going into hibernation when running out of hosts. I think they could have done something better, but then it wouldn't have been as scary of a horror film.

I'm fine with it as a callback to the ending of Alien. What I had a problem with was how retarded the marines were.
I get that the commander was a useless jackass, but the only the smartgunners were smart enough to ignore his order. Prometheus did the same thing too
>oh we deliberately hired incompetents and rookies for [plot reasons], so it's fine!
but it still felt contrived.

I think that that's fine because being trapped unarmed on a tiny ship with a hungry leopard, youse are fucked. But in a ground war of machine gunners against a couple of leopards, there's not really a big fear there. Still, Aliens is not canon to the Alien movies because obviously there are not "sexy transexual Arcturians" in the Alien universe. This is some shit from the Avatar continuity

I think that Xenomorphs dying to gunfire doesn't ruin them as a scary creature concept, because being trapped unarmed on a tiny ship with a hungry leopard would be scary even though several people with machine guns could easily kill a lot of leopards.
It's a moot point though, because the movie Aliens is not canon to the Alien series anyway, since obviously there are no such "sexy transexual Arcturians" in the Alien universe, as people talk about in Aliens. James Cameron's was later able to realize his fantasy of "sex between Marines and jungle aliens" in the movie Avatar. Since characters talk about this in Aliens, Aliens is compatible continuity with Avatar (not Alien)

>Thatโ€™s like saying Michael Myers isnโ€™t scary because you could theoretically pit him against a SWAT team where heโ€™d get his ass kicked.
Well, two things can be true at a time. Michael Myers or Jigsaw or any scary horror movie can be resolved easily with an army or militia.
