The realist destructionist approach was too early for Superman and Batman’s first outing. They say BvS was too dark but is it really any darker than the Nolan trilogy which had all sorts of gruesome deaths and melancholy. I wouldn’t exactly describe The Dark Knight as for kids.

I like BvS. I think it would have been a masterpiece had WB not forced Snyder to shoehorn in Wonder Woman and the Justice League crap, which all just completely ruins the movie nearly. Everything else was great.

The best superhero films are the ones that get their actors and directors deliver their version of these iconic characters, not just creating two hour toy adverts or prologues for big team up films. Raimi's Spider-Man, Nolan's Batman and Donner's Superman are all regarded as highlights of the genre and there's a reason why they work. Cohesive vision and stories that resonate. Snyder, Terrio, and Affleck got caught the short end of the stick with their pants down which I’d personally whittle down to simply bad timing. And while I don’t totally agree with Snyder’s 5 movie plan I would gladly take it over what we got which is essentially nothing.
