I was rewatching Last Action Hero the other day and realized how limiting that fucking accent is.
These days nobody with that thick an accent would become a major star. He got lucky.

The reasoning at the time was James Cameron thought his accent and was part of why he was cast and so Arnold got away with not being dubbed like he was before. It makes a lot less sense in his later films where he plays American hero character with no explanation as to why he has such an accent.

I like actors who can change their voice/accent. Michael Cane always just did his normal voice for every single character which is lazy to me. You should as an actor be able to do different voices.

I haven't watched it in a while, but is the accent even obviously Austrian? I thought by this point Arnold had already been working at toning down his accent for a while and it just sounded more like some generic non-american accent.
