Few know this is a Paul W. S. Anderson flick.

Even fewer know the black chick in this is Blade's mom.

God, I love Paul W.S. Anderson's movies so much. BTW, the extended cut of AvP is better. Fleshes out the characters more, has the nice Razorback Point opening sequence.

There's a huge amount of The Mummy influence in this.

Reminder that they originally had scenes of Predators fighting Native Americans and WWII GIs encountering Predators, but they were cut due to budget.

Not really. Everything is too dark. The fighting scenes are top tier so if you have the patience to deal with some seriously boring ass humans stumbling around in the dark to see them then maybe. But at that point just watch a cut of those scenes on youtube or something. That's the best the movie has to offer. Outside of that it's dull.

There are no Colonial Marines in the original AvP comic. The original AvP comic is about a woman working for the company who is sent to an outpost that comes under attack by both Aliens and Predators, and forms and uneasy alliance with one of the Predators to survive.

I personally think that most AvP fans online completely miss the point of AvP because they conflate AvP with the videogames that have overall very little to do with the original AvP.

Right, no one gave a shit about the comics as usual. Anyone who was interested in AvP is going to see it expecting what they know, which yes is from the games since they're the actual popular demand the movie should be trying to satisfy.

Paul W.S. Anderson has a weird track record of making adaptations that are actually quite spot on to the spirit of the work, and the people who made the thing he's adapting often like his take, but for some reason his take upsets fans.

They are both human killers so no matter which race came out on top in a fight their existence is a negative for us. Obviously, Predators only kill a relatively small amount of humans for fun and otherwise ignore Earth, while Aliens would kill all humans without stopping, but still, we'd rather no dead humans from extra terrestrial assholes.

Most of the CG is pretty ropey (while the practical effects are decent outside of the awful Predator face), but there's one bit where the as Predator bomb goes off, the snow around the girl and Predator gets blown forward by the blast that looks incredibly cool.

The aftermath of the ground underneath them collapsing into the crater also looks good, but that's mostly a practical effect, not CG.

I don't remember anything egregious about the camera cuts in AvP. The film imitates Russell Mulcahy a lot, though. (The way Lex kills the first Alien is directly copied from that film, and the base is called Razorback Point, and so on.)

Event Horizon is the story of a man whose wife kills herself he's in love with a ship. There's no cuck stuff in MK.

I recently realized that Paul's fascination with improvised flamethrowers is almost certainly because he saw Dog Soldiers in 2002, which has a bunch of his pet actors from the 90s in it.
