If felt more like a transition to a new arc with the boss lady. Like, the shit family was up shit creek and bosslady was spanking them with the shit paddle and then they suddenly started to just decapitate any potential plotline in the last episode like they couldnt have done that on the first episode seeing as how the big bowtie on everything was a gunshot.

Also, they had planned 10 episodes for Season 4, exactly as the first three seasons had had. This ended with Ruth killing Javier, and it wrapping up after that, with her still alive. Then Netflix changed the order to 14 episodes so that they could split it into two "parts" and more or less get two season releases out of one season, and the story had to get stretched out. So Javier died at the start of Part 2 instead, and they expanded the role of his mother, in a fairly nonsensical way where her motivations were hard to even follow and seemed to change from scene to scene. And of course the way the story played out in the expanded version, they landed on killing off Ruth in the finale as the apparent correct move for the story.

The problem was the story made no sense, and it was incredibly obvious it was dragged out of a shorter story. They even said that just became the inevitable outcome of the expanded story. Like I said, the cartel leader's sister who became a major character instead of a minor one because of the increase to fourteen episodes in two halves, made absolutely no sense and her motivations were impossible to follow consistently. The entire thing wound up incredibly contrived and overtly railroaded into a "The Bryds sacrifice their surrogate daughter for themselves because....money corrupts, and stuff" ending.
