I watched Bring Her Back tonight, I'd give it a 6/10, people oversold the gore. Sally Hawkins was genuinely unsettling, but overall it just felt a bit samey after Talk to Me. The ending didn't work for me, foregrounding the foster mother's grief and trying to give her a bit of redemption just doesn't land after a whole movie of her being repellent and killing two people (and almost killing two more).

What are some good Summer-y horror kinos?

Here are some I've watched so far (rated by fun, not quality):
Piranha 3-D >8.5/10
Piranha 3-DD >5/10
Nightmare Beach (1989) >6/10
Dagon >9/10
The Ruins >7/10
The Hills Have Eyes 2 (2007) - 7.5/10
Sleepaway Camp 1-3 >8/10
Friday the 13th 2-4 >9/10

Also looking for dumb shark movie kinos/hidden gems. Here are some decent-to-good ones I've seen lately:

47 Meters Down: Uncaged
Great White
Maneater
Bait 3D
Deep Blue Sea 1-3
Open Water 3
Shark Night

Not great, but dumb fun:
Blue Demon
Sky Sharks
Ghost Shark

been a while since i watched something genuinely creepy, the film overall really seemed to know how to do these really long quiet shots, made it feel like there was something hidden in the details that you were supposed to see, which does happen at certain parts.
very nice, highly recommendable. it's like a slowburn but instead of something really loud and dramatic happening at the end it just keeps the same mood that it's had throughout the film
can't say that the acting was all that good however, felt very "fresh out of acting class" kind of acting, if that makes sense. delivery was off and they didn't seem to react all that realistically to stuff that were happening. can't say i especially liked the ending, it didn't really give the kind of closure i would have wanted it to have

The Gremlins "no feeding after midnight" rule makes perfect sense when you think about it.
Lots of animals can only breed or only feed during times in the day. If you were a Chinese mystic writing rules for an exotic species you'd write a rough guideline. And they clearly have a circadian rhythm tied to metamorphosis, and gizmo is being held in a delayed larva-type state. Perhaps he'd even grow into a huge mogwai is like one of those giant tadpoloes that never transforms into a frog.

What's more puzzling is clearly they're already primed for being nocturnal since sunlight hurts them. You get the idea they are cave dwellers, since the reaction is so strong. Perhaps the mogwais live around the cave entrance and eat bugs, then descend into the cave once they reach maturity and their hunger grows. Perhaps nocturnally killing and consuming what resides in the cave is a ritual to transform.

I'm gonna say interview with the vampire
>>212354489
Reasoning because it restarted all the vampire trends we've got from that renaissance. Scream is huge, but Williamson is writing vampires decades later. It's got a lot of shit that makes buying movie rights to a book not by Stephen King a thing again, while still being kind of gay and postmodern (but not to the extent Scream or Mouth of Madness take it, just the general 90s base level of gay and postmodern)
It also conveniently got itself shelved by Queen of the Damned for decades, so there's no direct descendants, and came out of a new book so no previous legacy.
There's some kids comedies (Addams family, Nightmare Before Christmas, among others) we're still living with the consequences of too where they're kind of stuck in the 90s franchise era that were standouts too.
I think Interview though is the main culprit of a lot of things (like Buffy and all the other vampire shows) both in and beyond the decade. I think if you cause Kirsten Dunst to happen, you caused a lot of millennials to be like that

I had a really long dream where I was a kid at summer camp and older kids would bully us and even murder us if we tried to tell on them. We eventually tortured one to death but it all ended with the twist that the adults knew what was going on and we were now on a black list.

So, I'm in the mood for horror that happens during summer camp or boy scout stuff. Preferably if it's just the kids against each other. Any recs? Sleepaway Camp aside, I watched it twice already (kino).

Mogwai are creatures with roots hailing from ancient China. They were created by sibling gods of creation, Fuxi and Nuwa, as a test and bet to see whose views about humanity, another of their creations, were correct; Nuwa thought humanity was mostly good while Fuxi thought the opposite.

Nuwa had created the mogwai species while Fuxi made their rules and the losing god of the bet would have to quit creating life forever. A city known as Fengdong was chosen to represent humanity and the ones who resided there were given the mogwai to care for. If these humans could preserve and respect the mogwai then Nuwa would win the bet and if not, then Fuxi would win

when furthest from the sun, the mogwai's nature as a nocturnal mystical beast is at its height and they can thusly transform into their final form, a vicious creature of chaos and darkness
if you didn't figure this out when you were 12 after the retard corpo drones make jokes about it in the second movie and immediately get punked by gremlins, there's certainly no hope for you now

It's more of a thriller than anything and around a 4.5-5/10. It's not boring, just not that interesting either outside of 2 scenes.

finished It.
I thought it did a few things better than the film adaption. The brain fog where they kept remembering details was good, because it hammered home that experience you'd have of someone you haven't seen since a little kid, or memories hidden deep within.
Beverly also seemed more slutty as an adult in a confused way where she was just ready to fall in love with anyone.
Also the final spider gremlin form.. I can see why people hated the spider in IT Chapter 2 now. That was just Pennywise, whereas this sold you on it being an outer space entity.

Anon, you just watched the film adaptation. The newer one is a "digital retelling."
Anonymous No.212368462

kek. Speaking of, the practical effects were actually really good in a way digital will never match. There was a brief shot of books chaotically flying off a book shelf and I watched it several times and could not tell you how I'd actually achieve it if I had an SFX crew. Wire probably, but it looked so natural.

Nothing in the whole Terrifier series is original or interesting. It's the most astroturfed horror series in existence, and that is its only accomplishment.
