No, in the book it's constantly underlined that kids used to die when they did the tournaments and that's partly why they stopped doing them, and the kids all think every challenge is life or death because of those stories and how it's not treated like a regular sporting event. The Goblet Of Fire Ceremony part in itself was dangerous because it's some sort of Unbreakable Vow, which means if Harry didn't compete then he'd possibly get killed by the Goblet's magic for breaking his vow. He acts like the person everyone thinks is a good actor in a frontier town sort of thing, or he'd be the really talented guy in a rural stage production.
