If they were confident in their product and movie being any good they'd want the extra hype from the reviews to spur some interest. Typically they're legally-binding and theoretically you can get sued for a lot of money for breaking one. But it depends on the company and specific agreement.
Legal action is pretty rare as far as I'm aware though. Especially since tdb took the article down within 5 minutes. The more likely consequence is that tdb will be excluded from any wb films early screening in the foreseeable future. And this might extend to other companies since disney, paramount etc will have all seen this and won't want to risk something similar for their big releases.
The other possibility is that tdb gives glowing reviews for every wb release for the next year to try and make up for this.
