star trek has great models and sets. what are your favorites?
>>212344584 (OP)I liked how the exterior shots from that DS9 episode where they go back in time to TOS were done in the style of the TOS models.
>>212344620that whole episode was well done as far as the editing goes. i can't think of anything that looked to out of place
one of the bigger ent-d models
>>212345139how expensive could this possibly be? it looks 100 time better than current year cgi and its not like the cgi fags do it for free. i think someone is lying
I was never a fan of the enterprise-e, always looked so normal compared to the cool design of its predecessor.
>>212345239dunno, its rarer these days compared to then, so probably a bit more to get people who know what they're doing. models always look better though
>>2123452946ft left, 4ft right
>>212345239its because its easier to "lose" money on CGI, you dump money into an indian cgi studio and images come out. model work produces physical objects at a set rate by actual people, so there's no way to "lose" money here.
I'm up from my nap and the faggot thread is gone. Good riddance.
Favorite set: TOS bridge
>>212344584 (OP)Pls format the thread properly.
ent-e bridge set
>>212346082naps rock.
I'm fucking done with Star Trek to be honest. I want a more racist show about killing aliens with superior human manifest destiny.
I just watched The Andorian Incident. As I was watching it I guessed the end but thought "nah they wouldn't actually do that" but then they did. Why are they trying to make me hate Vulcans
>>212346221Because all vulcans must fucking hang!
>>212346082Remember when they recreate a bunch of those TOS sets in enterprise and they have evil archer running around in Kirkโs green wrap? I always liked that they chose stylistically to go with the old set. TNG does the same thing too in the Scotty episode.
>>212346209quark has a line about how it took ferengi 10k years to get where humans got in 5k and how its scary. that could easily play into the alternate universe timeline where humans begin to outpace everyone else
>>212345459Right is a beautiful model and has more geometry but itโll always be the six footer for me. So sleek and elegant.
>>212346316Sovaal has the same line to Admiral Forrest just before the admiral died saving Sovaal's life. It's a cheap cop-out, like saying we don't have to try to win because we'll win by default. It's nonsense fantasy. WE must WANT to destroy our enemies and have the drive to triumph over all adversaries if we are to seize the world for ourselves. People will NOT become Starfleet officers for empty platitudes and hollow whispers, they need to be threatened and whipped into the devastating omnivores we were born to be!
>>212346361the 4 footer has just the right amount of greeble (extra edges) to it to look great but isn't overdone. i like the 6ft more too but both look good
And why is it always Human Vulcan hybrids or Human Klingon hybrids, why is it never Human Andorian hybrids? A Human Andorian hybrid would be the perfect shock infantry trooper, battle-hardened and ready to kill... we must capture all the Andorian females and breed them until these blue janissary corps become our perfect frontline soldiers in the everlasting war upon the galaxy.
>>212346490they forgot andorians existed until enterprise for the most part
>>212346490Why is it only Human hybrids and never alien-alien hybrids? HMM? Without Gul Dukat there wouldn't even be any.
>>212345239The original Enterprise-D model built in 1987 for TNG sold for a little over 500k at the Christies auction house a few years ago
>>212346550Wasnโt there a Klingon-Romulan hybrid or two in TNG?
>>212346550Only Gul Dukat and human men realise the necessity of taking the women of your conquests and training their children into weapons of mass destruction. Total memetic victory of the insidious federation values and total genetic victory of the human male Y chromosome go hand in hand, but what they're missing is arguably the most important part - a lot of big fucking guns to kill all the aliens with.

๐
>>212346546how could one forget Shras? he was awesome
>>212346566theres a special or show about that whole auction for the trek stuff, i remember stewart giving an interview for it. cant remember the name though
>>212346717What, the infirmary is on the promenade?
The only Excelsior model left. The original Excelsior model from Star Trek 3 got permanently changed to the Enterprise-B with a bunch of new parts added to it for Generations, then they re-used it as the Lakota for Deep Space Nine
>>212346717Iโm not so surprised that the holding cells set isnโt attached to Odoโs office set but theyโre both attached directly to the promenade set? Weird.
>>212346836>>212346788I think you guys are forgetting this is a TV show set and not a real place
>>212346546I never liked this. Iโm happy enterprise fleshed out the andorians, but youโd think for one of the founding members of the federation theyโd be a little more prevalent among the universe/ starfleet
>>212346937i mean not really. they're violent and hate everyone.
ds9 is mostly storage, docking, quarters. the main area for everything non-ops is the promenade
>>212346827Here is the original Klingon K'tinga model built for Star Trek TMP IN 1979, but just like the Excelsior it got changed with parts added to it and repainted for its appearance in The Undiscovered Country.
>>212347006one thing that just always baffled me is the logistics of how it was an ore processing plant
>>212346962What about Klingons? Like
>>212346490said no half human hybrids? If worf got it in, there couldโve definitely been an andorian
>>212346546Same with the pig dudes
>>212347092Worf was a war orphan adopted by humans. He is not just a Klingon who randomly decided to join Starfleet.
>>212347070it was an orbital base/staging area as well when it was orbiting bajor. moving all the material around isn't a big deal since ships break orbit as easily as they go to warp
>>212344584 (OP)Was the klingon bird of prey from search for spock the same shit used for the next 25 years or so? I guess the klingon cruisers from TMP are even older designs, was the one in TNG identical or just similar?
>>212347140Yeah I know, but that couldnโt have happened with a with an andorian or a tellarite especially for one of the main series. B'Elanna is another Klingon example.
>>212346566found it: https://youtu.be/k3QSxccv8bg
>>212346550>and never alien-alien hybridsromulan Klingon hybrid on that prison planet
neelix is quarter something not talaxian
>>212347277Yea it was the same model. They never had Enough money on TNG to build a new Klingon ship, so the used the Bird of Prey from ST3 for all the early klingon appearances on TNG. When TNG finally got enough money in its budget they built the Vocha model to represent a current Klingon ship in TNG.
>>212347421i dunno i'm perfectly ok with the explanation that they are actually not only violent but extremely xenophobic and don't interact unless they have a really good reason. it suits them.
What's the most soulless Star Trek game and why?
>>212346871Iโm only questioning why the holding cells would even need to be connected to the promenade when they could build them in the corner of the backlot and not even need that. If you build it connecting to the promenade, you have to obscure it and can never use that valuable promenade set space for anything.
>>212348049drunk klingons get rowdy in the turbo lift on the way to the big holding area
>>212348049its a set they use quite frequently. you are still not thinking of "value" as if this was a tv show set.
>>212347878Iโm not trying to argue you with, just a friendly discussion, but why would such a xenophobic race join an intergalactic federation of planets? The Klingons and the romulans arenโt. I also think by the end of enterprise shran proves that an andorian can work with and respect a human.
>>212348049STOP NOTICING THINGS
>>212348334a holding area isn't imprisonment either. its temporary. given the proximity to the main bar and other areas people visit, which is only 2 levels, it makes sense to have a detainment area.
>>212348398>but why would such a xenophobic race join an intergalactic federation of planetsYou can enter into treaties with other races for preservation of your own power and sovreignty because you lack the technology and force to assert it otherwise while still thinking they all all subhuman and stink like shit
>>212348550but the meeting is going to be in cargo bay 3
>>212348471Thatโs fair. Iโll concede that maybe an andorian wouldnโt want to join starfleet, but Iโd still like to see more andorian story lines in trek. That is if it ever gets good again.
>>212348398>but why would such a xenophobic race join an intergalactic federation of planets?Self-interest, similar to why North Korea is part of the United Nations
>>212348596Cargo bay 3 doesn't even have a conference table.
>>212348713The commander said something about an ancient morale boosting ritual that Starfleet found in the archives they want to implement fleetwide, something about a "wal-mart dance"?
>>212348606I dunno about that. The seem best used sparingly otherwise they'll have to become more "assimilated" and therefore more boring.
>>212348713that table is hideous too
>>212347878Is it really xenophobia when another civilization is provably fucking with you?
>>212348801i'm talking about general xenophobia i.e. anything not Andorian is not worthy of respect or consideration on a moral fundamental level or however you want to phrase it
>>212348794I mean they have been used sparingly. Thereโs a handful of TOS episodes and theyโre most seen in enterprise, but practically no appearances in TNG and no appearances in DS9. Donโt know or care about nuTrek. Just asking for a little more. Iโm a big shran fan if you couldnโt tell.
>>212348900i've only seen them in TOS but I was a fan of them too. I literally just started watching ENT so I'll see what I think
>>212348908>make it a double
>>212348931you'll love what they do with them, its the only reason it comes up.
>>212348931Iโm a little biased as I am an enterprise enjoyer, but I love with what they do with the andorians over the course of the series. Really fleshes out an underutilized race.
If Spock is half human how come he looks fully Vulcan?
>>212344584 (OP)The Motion Picture version of the Klingon Battlecruiser has yet to be surpassed.
>>212349020>Enterprise is hailed>Archer's head blocking the view>Antenna.jpg
>>212349315because they look exactly like humans but for the ears which are obviously a dominant gene
>>212349328I love the motion picture. Shit like this is what revitalized the franchise. The uniforms are kind of retarded but you have to love the dated 70โs look.
>>212349328I can hear the music
The VOY episode where Janeway faces off against the personification of her fear is top tier acting if you ask me.
>>212349639recap the 'sode
>>212349639kate is great as a captain even with this fuckin nasty beehive hair, its the inconsistent writing that makes her insaneway.
>>212349020i can tell you what i DON'T like about their design: where's the chainmail?
>>212348793The Walmart dance is a psyop to embarrass the wagies out of demanding better pay and working conditions. Starfleet would have no need for such a ghastly display of fealty.
>>212349877Uh okay why not watch it yourself? They find some people trapped in a dream world like the Matrix, except they know it's not real, they just can't leave because they're trapped. The program supposed to keep their minds occupied malfunctioned, and now they're trapped in a living nightmare. Janeway sends a bunch of officers and when they realize it's a trap they can't get out. Janeway goes in herself and tricks the program into letting everyone go. Happy end.
>>212350188I donโt remember this episode but it sounds like regular VOY slop. It probably put me to bed.
>>212350047are they supposed to have it at that point in the trek timeline?
>>212350354I dunno I just like it and think it's fun
At what point did they officially give up on the idea that Vulcans are greenish?
>>212350541I think even by TNG they were quietly retconning it. But it was funny how hard they pushed it in TOS. Trying to play Spock up as totally alien when it was just a dude in makeup and prosthetic ears.
>What is this thing, Jim? Heโs got green blood! Itโs like nothing Iโve seen before.
>>212350674Spock was alien because of the way he acted.
reminder trek resumes on h&i on the 7th, monday. they're doing a twilight zone marathon
>>212350964Thanks, H&I shill
>>212345239Itโs less flexible and prone to breakage. Also storage costs. Itโs physically limited. Want to blow up a ship? You literally destroy it and only get one chance at filming the explosion. Physical models look fantastic but from a production standpoint they are hard to work with.
Red shirt anon here. I caught a virus and Iโm confined to quarters. Probably for the next three to four days. It sucks. But my journey so far has been great. Iโve done lots of security and cleaning. But also I got to steer the ship! Sheโs a 300ft vessel with z-drives and I would take helm commands from the captain just like Sulu. It usually goes like
>CAPTAIN: left 10 degrees
>ME: moving left 10 degrees
>ME: now left 10 degrees
>CAPTAIN: very well
Iโve also done mooring lines and even assisted as lookout when the captain pushed the ship into shore line so we could open the bow and deploy a massive mechanical gangway. It was really cool. Also the ship has five different control stations: the main helm, stations on port and starboard just outside of the bridge for when the helmsman has to see a particular side for close maneuvers, and also two control panels in the engine room for emergency situations. Itโs just like in TNG when they switch controls to the battle bridge. Badass. Recently we were stuck in port for 12 hours because one of our three generators went out. The engineer had to pull a 21 hour shift. Btw our ship is on a two shift rotation so things are very tough. Thatโs about it I guess. The days are very long and my feet hurt but Iโm trying my best.
Going through TNG for the first time after only seeing random episodes on tv as a kid, just got to the episode in s4 when everyone starts disappearing from the Enterprise because of wesley fucking up yet again
there were some real stinkers in s1 but the highs really are high huh?
Also I know Worf is also in DS9, is there a stated timegap or is it a generic "A Few Years Later" type of deal
>>212354056that's neat Red shirt. I enjoyed the update. be safe out there
>>212354056There's a weird glowing crystal we found. It's in cargo bay 4. We want you to go poke it with a broom handle.
Oh yeah forgot to mention this but pretty much the entire ship is carpeted. The only parts without carpet are the lower verandas and aft decks. The carpet on the bridge is particularly nice. All blue with stars and other patterns.
the aliens on Enterprise look so good.
>>212354150tng and ds9 are contemporary. picard gives sisko his assignment in the first ep of ds9 and theres a tng crossover ep at the same time. worf comes back 3 years later after tng ends
>>212354150S1 of DS9 is S4 of TNG.
Worf joins S4 DS9 which would be one year after tng.
>>212346314>ywn rail prime long haired T'pol while she's bent over the railing on the TOS bridge
>>212347277Tmp Klingon cruiser was reused in undiscovered country but I don't think in tng. Maybe during the copy paste war armada in ds9?
>>212354150In the middle of TNG season 4 you're going to meet the Cardassians. At the beginning of TNG season 5 you're going to meet the Bajorans. There's a two-part episode in the middle of TNG season 6 where the Cardassians suffer a major diplomatic embarrassment and have to rearrange their forces. DS9 begins immediately after that.
TNG ends during DS9 season 2. TNG movie 1 is during DS9 season 3. Worf joins DS9 during season 4.
>>212354511>S1 of DS9 is S4 of TNG.U wot m8.
>>212350964in the meantime plutotv has TNG/TOS DS9 VOY the films and ENT on 24/7 loops
>>212350541never. soval has green wounds after the embassy gets blowed up in ent season 4. there hasnt been any trek since then
>>212355028I'm talking about how their skin was literally green
>>212354986What do you think Iโm watching right now anon
>>212347277>>212354742>I guess the klingon cruisers from TMP are even older designs, was the one in TNG identical or just similar?>Tmp Klingon cruiser was reused in undiscovered country but I don't think in tngThe K'Tinga class ship is in Heart of Glory and The Emissary
>>212355268Ick, trying too hard.
>>212346827Pic of the star trek 3 Excelsior model that is now the Lakota
It's the "After school special about drugs" Neelix episode. I almost want to say it's kino because it's just so 90s.
>>212356337Qui? I remember Tng having one but not Voy
>>212356366I guess it's more of a "peer pressure" episode. It's called Fair Trade. Neelix's Talaxian old friend and fellow drug dealer steals drugs from Voyager and then he blackmails Neelix.
>>212356443He blackmailed Uncle Neelix? How did he know?
>>212356443>>212356763Did they ever address Trump showing up in Neelix's flight logs?
