this shows great, started watching it from a thread on here yesterday.
it's very grounded crime. no fantastical bullshit. a lot of the appreciation you get is from the subtly of the characters and their intelligence. it actually has a bunch of useful financial and business advice too, the main character is really likeable. calculating, sociopathic, but with good morals. very interesting and complex character. even his wife is interesting too, and has the same skills and talents as him.

It's good for the first couple of seasons before Wendy becomes the most insufferable character in television history.

have you watched both? OP here im actually curious how they match up. i tried watched breaking bad years ago but i mustve been turned off by the fantastical plots. because i dropped it quickly. i dont like comic tier villains and dumb shootouts, flashy guns and generic goons.

a man has a midlife crisis and starts doing crimes without his family knowing. goons come to his family and he can't hide it anymore, his wife eventually helps him

Every episode of Ozark is like "marry there's a huge problem, some local guy/cartel/redneck knows about the money"
and the hot redneck chick goes "MARTAAAAAAAAAAY" and swears a lot
and his wife and kids are cunts
But in the end of the episode the problem is easily solved by Marty paying more money or whatever so it's like there wasn't any real problem at all

Then it suddenly stops. You check wikipedia to read about the next season and that was all, that was the last episode and the story finished.

season 2 killed it for me. too many stupid, overly dramatic plot developments.
>jacob's about to kill darlene but the poison she put in his coffee kicks in just in time to kill him first
>jacob ambushed by the cartel at the end of an episode. next episode he's somehow escaped with minor injuries
>charlotte emancipation SHIT
>IS JONAH A PSYCHOPATH?????
>widowed drug dealing preacher kidnaps wendy because he thinks she knows where his stolen baby is
>wendy forces the family to stay so she can explore her girlboss arc

the main hook for me was the ruth/marty relationship in season 1. they for some reason put it aside for season 2 and shat out nonsense instead.

I hate it. It's so stupid. Here's the plot of the series:
>Marty do this impossible task as fast as you can otherwise I will slaughter your entire family
>Did I mention I will slaughter your entire family?
And the guy playing Marty has no emotional range.

EXCEPTโ€ฆ the supposed โ€œmoney launderingโ€ is all half-ass backwards in S1. NONE of what they do is how anyone launders money.

So, for me, that killed the show.

i just finished the first season
definitely only b-tier so far, but solid enough for my tastes
don't know why people draw comparisons from it as a shittier brba, the similarities dissipate super quickly within basically the first episode
