>>212375032Part of why I said "try Tendi in SNW," so we're comparing NuTrek apples to apples. My point is, Tendi only works in an odd couple comedy pairing. She would fall flat as a regular cast member of SNW, for the same reason Carol Kane's character seems shoehorned in. One note characters are fine for commedia dell'arte but Star Trek has been making an effort to make more nuanced characters in recent years. So if anon (maybe (You)?) is extolling Tendi, then I want to know what makes her a good character for a broad-spectrum Sci-fi show. Otherwise it comes across as trolling or coomerism.
Tendi, as a character, is basically green Wesley Crusher: ingenuous, wide eyed with the wonder of discovery, and possessing hypercompetence for plot-specific conflicts that are never spoken of again. This does not a good character make for anything outside of a sitcom.
>Should there be sitcoms set in the Trek universe?I'm cool with it.
>Is Star Trek primarily a sitcom?No.
If you can't make Tendi work in a general Trek seriesโand I made it easy by saying "try it in SNW" to avoid old-person biasโthen she's not a good Trek character.
Put it this way. Ma'ah would probably do well in SNW. He is nuanced. He has development. He's not just there to provide one of two or three opposing viewpoints in any given conflict. His brother less so.
See what I'm doing here? I'm not an "industry insider" but I'm trying to have an earnest conversation about the shows, their strengths and weaknesses, to show it can be done in good faith (of the heart).
You know what I'm NOT doing? Spamming TENDI TENDI GEEZER CULLED TENDI TENDI just to piss off other anons.
I've asked for a good faith discussion and I did not get one, despite liking LD and SNW quite a bit. And you wonder why the "old guard" gate keeps. Good faith begets good faith, and it's in awful short supply lately.
