I actually liked Frieren a lot more when it wasn't shonenslop. I didn't mind the demon-killing story but the mage exam arc is pure dogshit. I unironically hope the new season gets us back on the road, procrastinating and talking to some local farmers about the good all days.

I thought it was going to be an interesting take on D&D style fantasy about what adventures do after the big bad is defeated/how an essentially immortal being copes with losing mortal friends.
Instead they drop that premise like three episodes in and it just becomes a slightly above average shonen anime.
