The STD guys, Culber and Stamets, had no personality besides "different flavors of bitchy queen" and no character arc besides "bitchy queens in relationship"

Has NuTrek really cozied up to trannies? STD had a "they/them" but it was a Trill so actually multiple people, and also a female to "male" who detrooned and went back to looking like a girl when she got to choose her body LOL but they still called her "he".
SNWflake SNW had an actual troon who was also called a they/them even though he thinks he's a girl in real life . At first I was annoyed about this tranny being there but then it turned out he was the villain of the episode! And at the end of the episode Pike basically says if he ever sees that troon again he would make him "walk the plank" (join the 41 percent) That was actually a nice return of the based Pike from the Cage who wanted to become a slave trader and couldn't get used to a woman on the bridge! I wish they would give Pike more non-PC moments. I just wish if they had to be woke they would do it like TOS that had "diverse" characters but didn't make a big thing out of it. If they just had a tranny in the background, or someone with a genetic condition or something, they could still be "diverse" without being woke

>SNWflake SNW had an actual troon who was also called a they/them even though he thinks he's a girl in real life .
And those are your two troons. Which isn't much. But tranny has replaced cuck as the new insult here, so whatever.
SNW has the troon married to Sybok, which is stupid. Sybok was misguided but sincere in his beliefs and his desire to help others, and to that end had an ascetic life on the Planet of Peace or whatever it was called. Someone with a monastic life like that ought not to be married. The character of Angel/Aspen was obnoxious and grating as well, and anyone who Shared Their Pain ™ ended up peaceful and serene (vs. an emotional squall, as it were).
If SNW were a separate continuity, a slightly different universe with 0.38% difference or wherever the last season of Lower Decks had, it might make sense. But SNW Sybok didn't jive with TFF Sybok.

If I wrote a new Trek, it would lean towards a focus on: investigation/discovery/interaction/documation/analysis of new species in the Delta quadrant or some other very uncharted part of the galaxy.
It'd involve a science vessel that is smaller than most Enterprise-class ships by maybe 1/2 or so. Specifically geared for an exploratory mission to a bermuda-like zone that features a type of warp/scientific phenomena that both disallows entry and very much outward sight into the region but also appears to be causing an unusual influence on the few species that have been documented in the area. Specifically, causing bursts of exptreme biodiversity that lead to an exponential flourish of new species that derive from the originals in the area but have bizarre or mind-bending adaptations to the environment. Some even existing in other dimensions or are highly ephemeral or ethereal in nature.
This experimental science vessel is the first of it's class that provides resistance to "warp-like" influences (like the environmental effect that one character had in Shensekai yori mixed with the design/artstyle of "Mushi" in Mushishi or the yokai in Princess Mononoke).
This would be a very Bio-focused series. Two seasons MAX to not overstay it's welcome. Format would be akin to X-files in which there would be "specie/investigation" of the week peppered with an overarching plot that both shows up as B-plots in one-off episodes as well as having approximately roughly 1/3 of all episodes per season devoted to meaningfully moving the overarching story forward (no Lost, From etc. cock-teasing).
I haven't watched Strange New Worlds but I'm reading through the episode synopses now and it doesn't seem to really live up to it's name. This would be more fitting. And less gay.

Fuck the normies. This is Star Trek. That exact thought pattern was applied by Akiva Goldsman and Kurtzman. Look at what we've gotten for the last 20 years. And before that even with a lean towards nromie-pandering oin Enterprise, even VOY with the ever-dumbing down. If people can't get capital H hard sci-fi from Trek, where can you?
Also, the main A-plot that I referenced but didn't go into would be that dramatic tension. I only described the backdrop, setting, premise, formatting and design-preferences. WTSHJM

Some Trek fans here are fanatical gatekeepers, with firm definitions of what is "real" Trek and what isn't, mostly dividing along the line of modern cultural trends such as "woke", with a particular fixation on "trans". They approach this with a fervor that brooks no competing interpretations, and any such originations are met with hostility, derision, and dogpiling. The Trek fans that aren't as offended, or threatened, by this tend to be targeted, and some of them have grown tired of this and decided to fight back, despite preferring peaceful discussion. I see it as a metaphor for America, which is historically isolationist until provoked, at which point its adversaries wish they hadn't prodded the bear.

If they like submarine movies, you should show them the TOS episode "Balance Of Terror", whose plot was basically lifted from a submarine movie called "The Enemy Below". If they think they don't like TNG, I've used the episode "A Matter Of Honor", where Riker participates in an exchange program and becomes the first office of a Klingon ship temporarily, to consistently win over doubters. So provide more info about your dilemma & I'll try to help.
