homer getting airlifted out of the gorge, loaded into the ambulance, then having the ambulance immediately crash into a tree and homers gurney rolling back into the gorge has made me laugh out loud more than anything else I've ever experienced

every single choice is so jarring and horrible and the escalation is perfect

During its peak I think it was probably the best and funniest TV comedy ever made. It hits on pretty much every level from dumb slapstick jokes to fairly sharp satire and references, funny little character moments, and they do a better job fitting full storylines into little 20-minute episodes than most shows ever do

one thing you notice when watching the prime era of the simpsons is that there is a joke of some kind constantly, normally multiple jokes or funny elements per minute of the show
i reckon you could plot the joke density over time to show how the show declined

Didn't Ken Jennings do something like that? Not t prove Simpsons got shittier but when studying the elements of comedy for a book or something. The joke rate of prime Simpsons is off the charts.

I'm watching through the Simpsons for the first time right now, currently on season 6. The jokes are really well written but usually don't get more than a chuckle out of me. I think the humour is a bit too "safe" for my tastes, I tend to prefer more raunchy/offensive humour like Duckman.

This scene almost made me piss myself though.

You may can call it meta but serioulsy fuck you pal for calling it ree-edit

It was the moment the series took a darker more adult turn and it was hilarious. Cool thing was as a child the joke flew over my head and watching it as i get older my jaw just drops with what they were able to sneak in there....
