>>212403071>>212403194there are some obvious similarities, mainly how they approach the action (shooting practically as much as possible) and in the story which, like tgm, is about an older veteran returning to something they did in their past to help out a rookie. theres some less overt similarities too, like how f1 uses licensed music to give parts of the movie a party atmosphere similar to the way tgm uses permanent sunset weather, but thats minor. where f1 falls apart is in the less sympathetic lead, both in writing and in performance, the stakes being lower, the action being less varied and story having a weaker emotional center (pitt and the nigger coming to respect one another is less compelling than rooster learning to forgive maverick). f1 is "top gun with cars" in a sense, yes, its just a much, much lesser version of top gun
