>In recent years, the appropriateness of a scene depicting a kiss between Preston and Shay near the end of the film has been called into question, particularly with Shay's job as an agent with the FBI. Brian Bonsall was 12 years old at the time of filming, while Karen Duffy was 31. Concerns were first raised in a September 2009, over 15 years after the film was released, episode of the review web series Nostalgia Critic.

It was one of those non-animated 90s kids movies like Three Ninjas or The Big Green or Heavyweights or Milk Money. The audience they were hitting for was elementary school.

There was a plague of movies where the prize, goal or reason to do a thing was ONE MILLION DOLLARS. People got fucken sick of it, since out in the real world money can't touch real problems like a loved-ones MS or something.

Marketing psychopaths on coke shape culture more than you think. Corrections occur from time to time.

We’re the 90s better than the 2000s? Slop with soul. I feel like the world ended in 2012 and now we are all in hell. They would make Preston a negress if this released today

The 90s were great, culture didn't hate children & still would market to them. The social contract was holding on for dear life but wasn't completely dead.

The grip this film has over Nick Mullen though is something to behold.

Blake Snyder dedicates multiple section of Save the Cat! to explaining this, yet I still don’t understand. It’s the least appealing movie ever and boring in execution. According to Snyder it’s the perfect screenplay and all about wish fulfillment.

I also saw it as a kid when it came out on VHS, and I don't remember that scene at all. It was just the boring ending to a fun movie that's actually about getting to buy whatever you want. Also there's nothing wrong with it. I would have been stoked if an adult woman (an attractive one, I mean) would have kissed me when I was that age.

I've been trying to find a movie for ages. Probably '90s or early '00s. A shut in woman has her house invaded by a criminal couple. Her son comes to visit and they play it off like they're guests. The female invader flirts with the kid by showing him her broken nose from hockey or rugby or something and then kisses him. Any idea?

It was targeted to normal, mentally healthy, early teen boys. Unfortunately, the boomers who made it didn't realize how willfully ignorant or phony (feigned outrage) the millenial generation (and those after) would always be.
