You could see the outlines that there was something there, monsters are usually best when you can't really see what they look like because your imagination does the rest. Once we got to see tuunbaq in full frame it just looked stupid.

S2 was just wasted potential. If they'd have just set it in a japanese environment it would have been so much better because japanese ghosts and yokai etc are pretty freaky. The whole internment camp plot ruined it.

Both. Everything supernatural in the how is cringe. The rest is Kino of the highest order.
Season 2 is shit. There's like 2 good episodes when the main character goes to war. The rest is really bad drama and the supernatural aspect is even more ridiculous than in season 1. It's very clichรฉ/asian ghost shit. Good actors, bad script. It's True Detective: Night Country-tier bad.

2025 and it remains the only show (The Terror season 1) where I feel completely transported to that time setting and inside the boat with my fellow shipmates. No joke. The atmosphere is so palpable and believable, I feel like Iโ€™m in a Time Machine observing an actual point in history, with actual people. No show or movie has come close. Basically the show accomplishes what books induce. The book remains the most immersive medium there is. The Terror came close. Too close if you ask me.

alright you two did i miss something or not, do i have to pull out my blu-ray copy later today to double watch this one part?
what he sees or thinks he sees is the body of the young man orren who falls from the rigging at the start of the show and hits the railing before falling into the water
IIRC collins wanted to jump in and save him but he was ordered not too and felt guilty that he didn't do more to save him
if you say there is a monster then fuck did i miss something????

I get what you're trying to say, my interpretation is just that he got a glimpse of the monster in poor visibility and his fear filled in the blanks and made him spiral into guilt to see the man he failed to save instead. So it's not the monster influencing his mind, it's all him

I hated the way the exterior sets looked, the look of the monster and the ending felt messy.
Other than that it felt genuine and gripping, especially the first half.
It feels like the people involved were genuinely oblivious to the current trends in films and TV and it's a good thing.

Sorry bud, but that's one of the primary dangers of expeditions:
>Having steady supply of food and clean water
>Fighting off hostile natives and animals
>Avoiding viruses, disease, and general illness
The longer it is, the worst it can get. And being in remote, desert-like areas exacerbates things further. Canning will remedy the food issue, but not if it inadvertently introduces toxic chemicals, which has happened repeatedly throughout history. I am a fan of it since it keeps realism in the story rather than making everything perfect and people have to act dumb for things to go wrong. Competent people can be driven mad for reasons unknown to them, and a steadily worsening supply situation.

i really wish more of the book stuff made it into the show even though they did a pretty decent job at including some of it - the chapter where fitzjames, goodsir and doeux chase the monster through the smoke filled ship as it rips apart the crew seemed so freaky reading it
then them finding the two guys down by the boiler with one of them stuffed into it
and crozier returning to the ship after everyone is dead way later on and having that freaky feeling the dead guy in his bed was going to go zombie mode and grab him when he's going through his captain's quarters
wish more of that freaky mental stuff was in the show
sir john's last moments under the ice with the monster

The book was garbage. The show surpassed it in every way. The Terror and Altered Carbon are the only shows I've ever seen do the story better than the books they're based off of.
