A 40 year old millenial made a Pauly Shore thread the other day and peaked my curiosity. Over the last few days, I have watched numerous Pauly Shore films (Encino Man, Son in Law, Biodome, in the army now and Jury Duty)
overall, I'm impressed
I think Pauly is keyed, he's not only a great comedic actor, but in tender moments he's surprisingly good at acting, like, 9/10 as an actor.

Fuckin loved those movies. They weren't quite to the standard of a Bill and Ted, but they were far better than any "haha, youth culture" movie made since.
Paulyisms are just so addicting, too. I find myself needing to wheeze juice whilst imbibing grindage, but I wish I could do it in proximity to a nug.
>>212437452
Also agreed. he's nice. That's something anyone could look for in a mate. He's also really confident in just being himself and not concerned if he's being traditionally manly at any given moment. This was a thing we had in the 90s and it was beautiful. the trannies killed it. we had a brief, shining moment between "You're a little weird so you're off to the funny farm" and "you're a little weird so you're off to the hospital for surgery" where a man could prance around and be silly and still touch ladies on the butt. GOD i miss my dad.

He suffers from a case of being a middling actor during an era where Hollywood was at the absolute top of it's game in every respect and even comedy actors were winning academy awards. By today's standards Shore is phenomenal and his movies are fun and refreshing, but by the standards of the era he worked in he was bottom of the barrel.

It's not that you think Shore and his movies are good, it's that zoomers have never known anything good in their entire existence so what was barely even competent to boomers and gen x and millennials is seen as high art by zoom zooms. I'm sorry zoomers never have and never will experience true quality in their lives regardless of what it is.

it's weird how The Critic was ragging on movies back then when they were basically at peak
yeah not as classy as they used to be, but more palatable and capable of delivering messages to much larger audiences, if anyone actually desired to do so and put in that depth. Things got REAL bad after that show was canceled and Jay was no longer there to say they stink.
>>212437863
Rogen used to be a lot better. Hollywood did to him what it eventually did to Kevin Smith. Takes a cool guy and turns him into a wuss.

You have to finish your "Paulysaunce" with the film "Paul Shore Is Dead". It's a mockumentary about his life and how he faked his death. It's a funny film. Probably the most amount of cameos since Cannonball Run II.

Critics back then never even gave due to the fact that no matter how shit the script or acting was, the technical side of movies were always stellar. Even the shittiest Shore slopfest was shot on high quality film with perfect lighting and staging and cinematography, the sound design was great with no barely comprehensible mutter speak followed by loud booms, no dumbass I AM...L'ARTISTE angles or camera tricks. The technical side of movies is a dead craft now, even the most expensive and serious movie with the tightest script looks and sounds like something some YouTuber with no filmmaking skill made in their backyard on their iphone. All movies today look so fake and shitty, they're unwatchable if you grew up watching pre-2007 movies.

Shore movies are part of my go-to summer kino. Encino Man especially has something so 90s to it. Also the main character in that movie is a little cocksucker though. Bros got a cool friend and a caveman bro and he still cries and seethes because his bizarre attempts at bagging the stacy go wrong.

she famously never let jerry seinfeld at the comedy store, but there was still places like the improv, laugh factory, very easy to get a comedy booking in the 80s
jerry bought a mansion by hers and would rev his porche when he drove by

bigger nepo thing was pauly just got to grow up around a bunch of comedians so instead of struggling with other open mikers he had sam kinison tour with pauly as an opening act at like 18
