Episodic format. The Maxx is the only 10/10 superhero series ever made.

Oh god it's a "take western animation seriously" thread. Grow the fuck up, Samurai Jack and Batman TAS suck and are for children.

tonally all over the place especially in the first season. Some eps take themselves very serious and some feel like shit for 4 year olds

That's what happens when you make the most accurate adaption of a comic that had been running for over 60 years.

I deeply appreciate this series going out of its way to show that not every villain is irredeemable. It definitely left an impression on me and I would even say that it shaped my character.

It lined up with my ex-Catholic roots and general classical liberal leanings.

They rushed out 65 episodes, and it is impossible to shit out that many episodes in that short a time period and to maintain quality. Everyone remembers the 10/10 eps, but not the ones where the animation is an ugly mess.

On the bright side, DCAU is one of the few American animated productions where they saved the original 35mm film reels, meaning they could rescan them in HD. Pretty much every other show from my childhood is stuck in some horrendous SD DVD quality with a horrible transfer. That even includes shows like The Simpsons.

The reason? They thought they didn't need these reels anymore, so they transferred the shows to Video Tape masters and destroyed the originals.

Whoa, is that shot composition akin to a painting? Is that image mostly filled with negative space which frames the viewers attention and draws them towards the two figures?

Where are all the characters standing in a line blankly starring at each other while they yap their gums? you even see this shit in live action.

i doubt they even storyboard anymore, they just drag-and-drop the characters onto a flat background. very medieval.

Yes, almost certainly done for speed and time reduction by reducing the need to storyboard. You're even seeing it in live action. You can tell the people making it dont' care, so why should I?

The directives are coming from the top down.
