The comics (and arguably the film) were about the growing pains associated with transitioning from teen to adulthood. Through that lens, Ramona had similar issues to most of the other characters going through that and while she wasn't a sterling example of perfection, she was fine. Please explain. I feel that Robin Williams doesn't really have a 'typical' movie. The only one I can think off that is similar to Dead Poets Society is Good Will Hunting and even then he's not really a quirky free thinker who breaks the rules so much as he is just a normal therapist.
The quintessential Robin Williams role is Genie and the quintessential Robin Williams film [for me] is Mrs. Doubtfire. I associate him more with absurd, wacky comedy roles than dramatic/heartfelt ones. Flubber, his standup, and his roles in sitcoms all seem more 'classic Robin Williams' than Dead Poets Society or something like Insomnia. Also Jumanji, Hook, and What Dreams May Come are all things I remember him from that, again, are pretty different tonally. One Hour Photo and Worlds Greatest Dad are pretty different too.

How much do you read? Poetry, to me, is about appreciation of rhythm/meter and the use of aesthetic writing. If you have enjoyed writers because of how they write rather than what they write (for me that would be Nabokov, Saint Exupery, Beagle, and Pratchett off the top of my head) you would likely enjoy poetry. If you are focused entirely on the narrative or characters (or the informative aspects of non-fiction prose) you likely won't enjoy it. That's kind of the point. In the film, he's playing a charmless, unfunny middle aged white guy who doesn't have a spine, isn't particularly clever, and fails when trying to be funny. He is painfully average, and you think "how does he get this girl" until you realize that the girl is average too, and does everything she can not to be, they're a perfect match.

Everyone in this film is abhorrent. The most interesting part of the movie is that in the middling inconsequential story about two people who are bored to death with each other, you have this insane science fiction technology where you can deep fry memories, and everyone treats it as this casual thing that of course would exist, because why wouldn't it.
