Dropped watching Avatar more than a decade ago and I still don't understand the hype besides the whole 3D IMAX shit back then. It's the most sketchy and generic sci-fi IP ever made and Cameron is a hack yet cattle still flock to watch that crap. I guess it's their equivalent of Blade Runner.

It's for children. I remember being a child and thinking it was the greatest thing ever. The story about how it took 6 trillion years to animate made it more impactful.

I still don't see how Cameron is supposed to make 9 films out of this universe. Two films in and it's about as morally complex as He-Man and about as deep in world building as an episode of Spongebob.

I'm pretty sure that was always bullshit. Theories I've heard are that ordering all those sequels is just a way to keep him under there thumb and was something they basically forced him to do in exchange for making that dumb Alita adaptation.

Well... that's pretty much it. The premise was generic, the acting was good, but Pandora looked so damn fucking good that you'd just feel mesmerized by it from the beginning to the end. The way you'd be immersed in the fauna and flora... it was like you were Batman.

The juxtaposition from the depressing polluted gray Earth with the fluorescent, thriving life of Pandora was so masterfully done that I shit you not, it caused regular people to become depressed after leaving the theaters and autists to frantically daydream about dying and being reincarnated as Na'vi. There were whole forums where they congregated and shared their fantasies.
