You only had one episode to work with and he didn't do anything particularly out of line with "generic hero" stereotypes of the day. Shatner at times acted with wit, or with force, or with guile, or with charm to solve the problem of the day. Anson Mount was a better Pike than Hunter.

I would've loved a Star Trek show with the ENT cast if it was set after Voyager and wasn't a prequel filled with questionable retcons.
Doing a prequel of something with such an antiquated, signature look as 60s Star Trek is just a bad idea because it will never feel as old as the 60s series, even if it's set before it in the timeline. And that's how I feel about ENT. Everything about it, the astronaut jumpsuits, the way the ship kind of looks like the interior of a modern Navy vessel -- instead of making the show feel older than TOS, it makes it feel more contemporary somehow.

The Andorians, Bakula as Archer, bringing it back to a 3 lead dynamic (Trip, T’Pol, and Archer), phlox is a great doctor, their collective fear of the transporter, antiquated weaponry…enterprise suffers from being a prequel and it also gets to hung up on doing what had come before it, but there are elements of a great series that writers finally started to develop right before it got the can. Calling it just Enterprise and the theme song were mistakes. The theme song should’ve and always been Archers Theme.
>>212469997Is there a good Dukat?
>>212470047Who would win: Vulcan or Insectoid?
>>212470063No...there's a good Brunt
>>212470045>AndoriansIncredibly based, best part of ENT
>Bakula as ArcherAgain, I really like the casting, more than the character
>3 lead dynamicThis, I did not like a smuch. I like a lot of the ensemble guys on ENT. Malcolm is cool, Phlox, even Travis is alright. I think it was a bad idea overall, and a bit too much T'pol drama.
>old techThe portrayal of the transporter was good, I liked the selective use. But "polarize the hull plating" and all of that stuff, it just sounded weird and it never really sold me. It was better later on.
>>212470133>>212470045the captains table dinners were fun but tpol romance was kind of awful til the finale.
>>212470133There’s no way to know if they would’ve been good or not, but name me a trek other than TOS where the first two seasons are fan favorites. Enterprise starts to hit its stride in season 3-4and if we’d gotten 3 more after that I think people would remember it a lot more fondly. I understand your criticisms and I agree with a lot of them, but I defend enterprise. I don’t know why I like it I just do. It was almost there. They threw away the cake half way through baking it.
>>212470097what do insectoids do?
>>212470346I do like it. But I would've loved a post VOY series for sure with all of the same characters and production staff.
>>212470565They started developing a post VOY show developed by Bryan Singer set in the year 3000 before the Abrams movies. I think they repurposed a lot of the world building stuff for the later seasons of Discovery, but I wouldn’t really know how much cause I never watched past season 2 of DIS. A post VOY series set closely to the end of VOY/DS9 would make a lot more sense for a trek series.
>>212469968It's bad enough that the catalog is flooded with "ironic" shills posting news articles written by Sanjay Crappopali telling everyone that the new Supersingh movie does the needful, but does it have to infect /trek/ too? The worst part is you're not supposed to say anything about it.

I’ll say it. Hot take. I only watched like a season and a half of discovery before turning it off forever cause it was dumb and gay, but I remember not hating this tall nigga all that much. He’s like the only one I can remember outside of burned ham and Jason Issac’s.
>>212470047Tummy 2 Tummy action.
>>212462380Go home Bashir
>>212472402yeah, it wasn't even the worst show ever made til like ep7
How many more days until FINALLY watching Season 3 of SNW?
God they did such an awful job of preparing audiences for the show. Fucking 20 episodes in 4 years or something like that.
>>212472651The main chick, the black lady from walking dead, was an awful choice for a series lead. Terrible actress. Discovery began to lose me at her and the new Klingon war we’ve never heard of before, which is like the first episode lol.
>>212470877I remember reading about that. There's a lot of trek projects that never came about that were super interesting.
What's sad is that with JJ Abrams and the Kurtzman stuff probably never being retconned, that shit will probably always ruin the setting.
>>212472708SNW really answers the question “how could we make TOS worse and gayer?” At least the Abrams cast were kind of in line with what we knew. Why did SNW make Pike look and act like a fucking fag? I understand they retcon The Cage, but godamn does the cage cast seem so much cooler in just their one episode.
>>212472910The Cage was just really stupid good and way beyond its time.
SNW has been decent though. There's just too little of it and they've taken too long.
>>212472910Imagine being retarded enough to really think that the Abrams movies are better than SNW.

>>212473068I’m almost certain you’re trying to bait me, but I never said better than, both have issues, but they’re certainly cast better. Take SNW Kirk for example. What is this anon?
what we need in star trek is more sassy black lesbians
>>212462500Not much difference between the irish and the blacks!
>>212473123I liked SNW kirk actually
SNW fucking sucks. It's just more generic sci-fi slop with a Star Trek brand logo slapped on the side.
Nu Trek will never feel like Star Trek until they put someone in charge who had a major creative role on a Trek show that was actually good to keep things on track. Use the old TNG writers that are still around to pick writers they like, mentor them, and curate a halfway decent mainline Star Trek show. And then you can start taking stupid chances and doing shit like "a musical episode."
>>212473160LD is over bro. Rick and Morty trek is gone and that painful experiment is over
This is my gift to you, /trek/. Please use it wisely.

I liked Into Darkness.
I love the idea of Khan having been awake for a while and, having realized that he's no longer blatantly superior to the people around him, is forced to lock the fuck in.
>>212469606Good Morning Captain!
I just watched DS9 Season 7. What a fucking shit show. The ending sucked.
