Yeah.
Zaslav was a big fan of the Synder films. Because of him, Affleck filmed a sizeable cameo in Aquaman 2 and the ending of Flash was changed so that Keaton wouldn't replace Affleck anymore (and filmed more scenes with him). Cavill was unofficially officially offered to be Superman again (meeting with execs, nothing in writing yet).
Then Gunn got the job and immediately cut all the Affleck cameos, fucked with the ending of Flash and announced that the entire universe would be reset.

I mean ZSJL literally ends on a semi-cliffhanger.
But more than that, I don't think there were any concrete plans to get Snyder back. The point was that they were going to try and make films that stayed true to his characters. Ava Duvernay's New Gods film was cancelled because her characters conflicted with Snyder's portrayal of them. Cavill was going to actually appear as Superman again.
(And there's also a whole thing about the Rock trying to take control of the dceu, betting on Black Adam and distancing himself from Shazam. Cavill was on his team. Gunn was not. Black Adam flopped and Gunn got the job)
