Finally had the opportunity to see this in theaters and while it's decent, I can't understand why it's praised as much as it is. The kills weren't as impressive, fun or elaborate most of the time, the CGI wasn't great (the trash compactor could have been so much better) and the characters aren't that appealing, besides Tony Todd who had the best scene in the movie (mostly because of what happened to him.
But I dig the idea of the movie, Death going after an entire family because one of their ancestors avoided their fate is a cool concept.

>>212488409it's because of tiktokification of child media in general
children aren't taken seriously as an audience so studios just put the bare minimum into it and the directors who are in charge of those films aren't good either as the better ones are put on more promising ips

I know there is the killing rule in the movie but seeing how they changed them in the second part (this is the worst idea in this movie), they could totally say killing a cursed one would not change shit.

Osgood Perkins has another film coming out that's actually due out 2025
>Keeper follows a couple as they escape for a romantic anniversary weekend at a secluded cabin. When Malcolm (Sutherland) suddenly returns to the city, Liz (Maslany) finds herself isolated and in the presence of an unspeakable evil that unveils the cabinโs horrifying secrets.
Not written by him though.
>>212496083I didn't know about this. Pretty interested to see it. 2 and 3 are pretty different, so I can't imagine how they were once 1 movie. >Turns him into vampire but he doesn't want to be one
>Wife kidnaps little girl so they can be a "family"

>>212486826>>212486883>>212487288Good grief, what a piece of shit. Boring throughout, slow as can be, ugly, etc.
Eggers is the kind of director who will do a ton of research for his movie, and then use all the knowledge, not caring what actually works and benefits the movie he's trying to make. He'll have 1/3 of it be in some ancient language nobody knows or cares about and never think how it's affecting his movie. He'll see that the original Nosferatu film had color tinting, and try to use that in his own adaptation, not caring how ugly and bland it makes the whole thing look in every scene because he isn't shooting it on 100 year old celluloid film that benefits from that look.
This isn't a good director, this is some halfwit trying to make a name for himself in the most pretentious way, with no understanding of what he's even doing.
Lily Rose Depp gives a good performance, but it's wasted in a production that doesn't even care enough to capitalize on its casts' performances. The director is too distracted by the smell of his stinking asshole to try to make use of the few things he has going for him.
>>212509788>Lily Rose Depp gives a good performance, you have to be joking
>>212509788Interesting. I'd say many of the scenes visually are the best thing about it. Some where overdone, but others like his entry into the castle I thought were great. Or the falling snow in the city draped in shadows.
I did hate it though, because of the miserable characters and unrelenting score.
>>212509852She does, it just isn't enough to carry the film. Memes aside, she has established herself here as a capable actress. The only good performance in the film.
>>212509888>I'd say many of the scenes visually are the best thing about itI couldn't even see most of the scenes because they follow the modern paradigm of everything being stupidly dark and blended together.
The two best shots were him walking towards the phantom carriage at the crossroads in the forest, and the passage to the castle. Other than that, it was all just gummy and bland.

>>212510313Until Dawn movie made no fucking sense. It couldn't decide if things were supposed to be mystical or scientific. All we got is a mishmash of unexplained nonsense. Was it a curse? Was it a time dilation area? What was the significance of the hourglass? What caused the time loop? No answers, probably never even conceived of in the first place by the writers. Just Things Happening for their own sake. The definition of slop. Monkey-brained.
>>212511507To be fair, some kino movies have been made that way. But I'm pretty sure Sandberg starts with SFX ideas and works his way back.

Hey horrorchads, I like occult-themed horror movies that take the subject matter seriously. My favorite movie, as pleb as it sounds, is Dr. Sleep, mostly because it depicts a world with an "occult underground" very realistically and takes its cosmology seriously.
I really liked A Dark Song too. I tried watching The Ninth Gate and was just bored. Could I get some recs in this genre?

Recent horror watches:
>Missing Child Videotape
It's a 5.5-6/10 supernatural horror-drama. I can see people thinking it's a boring movie and it is slow at times.
>Baby Blue
I enjoyed this and even thought the humor was good at times. There is definitely a scene or two that everyone will remember after watching it. If you've seen it, you know exactly what I'm talking about.
>Found Footage: The Making Of The Patterson Project
Not as kino as I thought it was going to be, but it's still a good FF movie. It's certainly more comedy forward and the horror is muted, coming at the end.
>Henshurei: Deleted
Boring. Falls in with all those other low budget supernatural Japanese horror movies.
>Joy Ride 2: Dead Ahead
What a step down from Joy Ride. Showing Rusty more is a mistake, but glad they kept the same VO actor. It's a 4/10.
>Joy Ride 3
On one hand the gore and effects are shockingly good, but also ridiclous at times. On the other hand, showing Rusty completely was a mistake, as was not having Ted Levine do his voice. It's just not the same. Wouldn't mind a reboot/retcon of this trilogy because the premise does work. It's still below average.

Milland is such a perfect cunt in this film:

Are there any horror movies where we actually see society collapse instead of the movie skipping to the aftermath?
>>212517504Dawn of the dead
>>212517504No because it doesn't make any sense. There's no way a military wouldn't immediately BTFO all zombies in a short time. They really can't funnel them with bait and then use drones or a goddamn tank to just run them down?
Movie lineup for tomorrow morning so far:
>Babysitter Wanted
>Bad Ben
>Devon
>2 Girls 1 Gut
>>212517914>There's no way a military wouldn't immediately BTFO all zombies in a short time.If there was a zombie outbreak 90% of the military would desert to make sure their families were safe.
>>212518107Yes, because they definitely do that in real conflicts. Oh wait, they don't, they still fight because if they go AWOL or become a deserter, they face severe punishments.
>>212517504The Dead Don't Die-- one of horror's biggest missed opportunities btw
>>212518287>real conflictsCan you link to the real zombie apocalypses?
You're thinking zombie containment is like the Iraq romp instead of rapid bottom-up societal breakdown/civil war. When the orders come on in to bomb Hometown, USA, soldiers will start rebelling.
>>212517914You can destroy my specimens, but what about the millions more that are waiting to greet you outside? Do you really think you can "BTFO" them? All of them?
Sorry Bring Her Back was actually epic and it has a normal 1:38 runtime and didn't over-use those gay as wide shot A24 shots and slow pans and everything. Just a classic horror movie that sets up sympathetic characters very well.
Jay Bauman is going to cream his pants to this
>>212519157I bet he will. Jay Bauman's opinion on horror films is worthless thoughbeit
>>212519007You do know that the National Guard is part of the military, right? They've been deployed for riots before. You really think the military wouldn't be deployed for zombies?
>>212507262I don't get why she turned into a small were-dog thing. Did the snout just not emerge yet during her transformation?
>>212519647A riot isn't a zombie apocalypse.
I accept your concession.
>>212519828Thanks for exposing yourself as a redditor.
>>212519114Just need a couple of 80-year-old German made crematorium ovens, and it shouldn't take long to get rid of 6 million of them.
>>212519695Cut them some slack, there's never been a good female werewolf design in a horror movie. They just don't know how.
Is this movie worth my time?
>>212520022I didn't think it was that bad. Far better than 28 Weeks which peaked 15 minutes in, but definitely not as good as the original 28 Days. It is sort of 2 movies in one though, and the first half is absolutely far stronger than the second. The last few minutes is basically where it starts leading to the sequel, and that's what has me pretty concerned about Bone Temple/Part 2 since it was a bizarre change in tone. Also made it feel less like a standalone story in zombie infested UK, I can't imagine it'll be any better with an American directing the next film.
>>212493413Most of the adaptations not already mentioned are some degree of crap unfortunately. This includes:
The Shuttered Room
Die, Monster, Die
The Curse
Die Farbe (aka The Color Out Of Space)
There's an 00's remake of The Dunwich Horror with Stockwell as the professor this time I turned off 10 minutes in.
The Evil Clergyman segment of Pulse Pounders with Combs and Crampton was released as a standalone.
Haven't seen Colour From The Dark.
Same for the Pickman's Model and Cool Air episodes of Night Gallery along with various and sundry other film and tv versions of his stuff.
>>212493812I remember being genuinely distracted by how beautiful Lucy Boyton was in this film

>Unable to conceive, a couple seeks to build a family with a young orphan, survivor of tragic childhood. But their act of love turns to horror when they realize the violence in their foster's past has returned to destroy the new family.

Most horror that tries to be comedic or "campy" gets a lot of shit in the horror sub reddit.

Final Destination: Bloodlines (second best Final Destination movie of the year)

>>212530836Why is reddit like this?
>>212530812>>212530853>>212531050There are really two "kinds" of horror comedies
>mainly comedy with horror elements>mainly horror with comedy elementsBoth are fun. Scream, An American Werewolf in London, and Gremlins would fall into the latter. Tucker and Dale, The Monster Squad, and Gremlins 2 would fall into the former.
>>212492223He should have lived. The twist that he wasn't actually related to the grandma's side of the family was funny and it would have been kino just having a guy who death can't kill running around trying to save his family.
>>212527855I remember watching this as a kid and trying so desperately hard to see her nipples.
>>212530812missing someone?
>>212530812Student Bodies should be in the Washington position. Truthfully, Tucker And Dale is the only one there that's actually funny.
>>212530998Probably because it's a series. not a movie. I only just spotted this myself on streaming.
>>212530836>absurdly shit tasteI feel insane reading movie reviews anywhere else but here. Pretty sure this is the only place where more people like Dashcam than dislike it.
>>212531376>Student BodiesKino, unironically one of the best slashers of its era imo.
>>212529064Speaking of reboots, its weird that Texas Chainsaw Massacre has another one in the works. At least with Blair Witch you can add onto its mythology and you can lean into the paranormal and there were some neat segments, but I'm not sure what else you have with Texas Chainsaw besides making a full on exaggerated biopic loosely based on Ed Gein.
>>212531434Maybe it's just the rights are easy to acquire. Meanwhile F13 is in legal limbo and Freddy has no actor to helm it.
>>212531434>>212531544Studios pass the Texas Chainsaw license around like a five dollar whore.

>>212532554i thought TCM 2 was largely seen as a joke
The Ritual (2025) was really bad. I don't know who thought it was a good Idea to cast Pacino as the old priest. He clearly didn't care.
