Hmm, this prompts an interesting question:

Has anyone ever made a film and included in it, maybe in the background, a little hook like this, which is a definite nod to another film? Would you be allowed in general? Or would it break copyright or something?

It could be done very subtly and could be very cool.

For example, you have a scene in a restaurant, and your characters are doing stuff, and in the background you have snatches of the Pacino - De Niro conversation from Heat, and just see glimpses, suggesting they're at the next table along.

Isn't there an Alien skull in the trophy room in Predator 2? IIRC it was just supposed to be a joke at the time because the studio owned both franchises; they didn't anticipate any Alien vs Predator nonsense.
