What is the season I should stop watching it before it turns to boring slop? Usually when people tell you to drop a show after a current season they are right

Season 4 is the last good season, the writing staff changed entirely for season 5 onward and it's very obvious. The final season is notorious for just how bad it was.
Do yourself a favor and stop when you finish season 4.

Seasons 1,2,4 are the peak. Season 3 is alright but suffers from a writers strike that was going on. After that the main writer left and it pretty much turns into capeshit with the overall story slowing to a crawl so Dexter can fight supervillains every season.

Even the later seasons are alright though.

stop after season 4, make up your own headcanon of what happened to dexters life afterwards and proceed to watch New Blood to get ready for the newest season. I'd even argue that you could skip season 3 but some people enjoy the characters in that season

Like the others said, it peaks at seasons 1, 2 and 4. Season 5 was actually pretty good, on par with 3 in my opinion. 6 was mediocre and 7 was dogshit.

That being said, you should try to push through all of it, because New Blood was decent until the end, and Original Sin is excellent. Resurrections is going to be kino I can feel it

If you really like the show even the later seasons are decent. It heavily leans in to the formula that season 4 starts; one new "big bad" every season. played by a mildly famous guest star.
