Although that's true I can see in universe it makes sense.
(spoilers) Up until the social worker arrives, she's only *temporarily* kidnapped a kid. After the ritual he's just gonna skip back home. Is erasing a soul evil? Sure I guess but it's grey area you know.
The reason the kid is going evil bananas is because she's postponed the ritual to wait for rain (that's the retarded part, bitch fill the pool with a hose).
When the social work arrives and finds the shed, she suddenly realizes her plan is falling apart. So she makes her first really evil decision, a crazed panicked decision to murder them both, impersonal because of the vehicle (people find it way easier to murder others in cars).
Later in the pool she has to make a much more conscious, physical decision to drown a little girl. It's understandable at that point she can't, also she knows she's fucked because of the other dead bodies.

What's interesting though: She makes a creepy throwaway comment about killing the boys dad. It's not delved into but I guess it's maybe implying that she stalked and poisoned him somehow so the kid would come up for adoption?

Apparently it's the only recorded interview with Ed Gein. Rewatch that I haven't seen in at least a decade. It reminded me why I liked it. The entire movie has a very 70s feel to it with how it looks and is shot. The plot is solid as is the acting. Can recommend 100%.

Jesus Hitler Christ was this a pile of pure shit. I wanted to quit 6 minutes in. Every character, especially the gay black guy, is annoying as fuck. Yes, this movie is 100% poz'd out of the ass. Oh there's also a movie, fairly new I think last few years, that has like three or four separate vignettes, I forget what it's called but it's all about alien encounters, I think most or all of them are shot as found footage. Feel like it was a new sequel to a series but I tried looking some things up just now and couldn't find it. It was decent though, it had some good ideas at least.

I just found out that a new horror story collection by Laird Barron came out last year. It's comfy.

He tends to be hit or miss and is way too much in love with his hardboiled prose (first story in the collection unintentionally has an aged female talk like a retired bouncer), but when he's aping Ligotti he's better than you'd expect someone like that to be. It would be nice to see an adaptation of some of his work. Swift to Chase, for example. Basically if you haven't read him it's like Clive Barker crossed with cosmic horror.
