I think this was the only movie ever where I found Anya Taylor-Joy attractive.

It wasn't a subplot, it was hinting to the viewer that evil/sin had already infiltrated the family so the father's efforts were useless. The son already had sinful desires and they double down on the daughter being evil by showing her reaction

the movie isnt about them being sinners its about the ambiguities in the logic structure of puritanism. He didnt want to fuck his sister. He was curious about girls and its the most simplistic hint at reaching adolescence. The whole thing is a satanist wet dream with God nowhere to be seen (even the scripture quoted is used to cement the theme of ambiguity and fruitlessness) and the character failures exploiting their shortcomings which were pretty fucking benign outside of the obligatory escalation.
