It looks so bad and fake, it's pure opposite of the first movie's amazing spectacles. I was so mad at the time. The fact that I have learned so much since about dharma etc, which overturns one's world understanding of the world, made me think maybe I should watch it again because maybe the 'philosophy drivel' stuff will actually turn out to be things that I now recognize. But then I see this and remember I didn't hate it because of philosophical burbling, I hated it because of dogshit CGI. It also has no mystery or stakes or mind blowing concept like the first one, but these are insignificant in the light of just how fucking gay and crap it the effects look especially now that fucking characters were effects. Neo looking and moving like woody from toy story. Never wanted my money back more
>>212586416
I've rewatched both now and again over the years, and I feel you can take from them whatever you feel especially with how technology is advancing now with AI. I remember feeling even at the time some of the CGI was iffy, but it has its charm somewhat.

If you think about it, for the majority of the plot, the characters don't do anything until the Oracle tells them what to do. that's not omniscience, that's just setting up the dominoes and watching where they fall.

This scene went hard with the vampire themes. The Frenchman obviously looking like a real life Dracula, with his succubus close by. It's of course a costume party but there's also some imagery of him drinking blood. Vampires are often portrayed as very lustful creatures, with a penchant for women, food and alcohol. There is also an allusion to vampires in the first movie, with vampires and ghosts being mentioned as older renditions of Matrix.
I wonder if The Frenchman is actually a vampire program from a previous Matrix version in exile. Certainly the imagery alludes to it.

Speaking of Frenchman, I also wonder if the Wachowskis originally planned there to be some sort of civil war between programs. Mainly between Smith and the Frenchman. Both are highly ambitious programs capable of spreading their influence. Most other programs are self-contained and generally stick to their tasks. The final fight of course implies that Smith did find the Frenchman and also corrupted him.

It was trash when it came out. People were laughing at how goofy that scene looked

This trilogy was exceptional in the CGI department retard, go compare with other 1999-2003 movies.

You are literally making shit up. It was excellent for its time and holds up very well today.

That's how you can tell it's a completely worthless chart. I mean come on, it has three random star trek movies and pretends they're a trilogy.

I had seen the mummy returns. I knew that as 'how not to do it'. That was part of the reason matrix 2 was so baffling. I thought of the matrix people as the ones who got it. And then I'm sitting there and it starts looking exactly like mummy returns.
But this is pointless to insist on because you made your bait too apparent with the posts like this

Also permanently relevant because we live in a simulation loosh farm
Matrix 4 sucked though. Now I'm afraid to watch the original trilogy because I might realize it was retroactively awful

How else are you to establish the looming threat that is Smith? You don't get that in the opening scene where we see him make a copy of himself. This is just the next step in that. Smith is a threat but he's not the primary threat at this very moment, but it's clear he will be.
